Well, of course Detroit would do that but Tampa would have to consider that pretty carefully. The Wings are taking Johnson so that's good but they're only getting a top-8 protected pick for a legit 2C. I guess it depends on how long this goes on. At this point, I'm thinking JBB is going to wait to see if there even is a season.

Wings aren't doing it. Cirelli is good but not worth the 9th pick or an unprotected 2022 pick if we fall within the top 8 of 2021.

Also taking on tj alone is going to cost them a first plus a top prospect. This is an easy decline from the wings pov

It’s an interesting idea but I don’t think I’d do it. IMO Johnson would cost a 1st to dump. That turns this trade into 2 1st’s for Cirelli which is too much for us to give up.

Is Tyler shot? I am not sure. He is one year off of scoring 29 goals. If he can bounce back Detroit gets a 2C and 3C or RW for one pick. I was disappointed that Tyler did not have a better playoff run.

If I was Yzerman, my first round pick would be entirely off the table. A lottery protected 2021 1st just turns into a great 2022 pick for TB.

No. Yzerman isn't doing that. This is a trade Ken Holland would make.

I could see TJ bouncing back but not sure he’ll be more than a 40-45 point guy at best. The risk would be that he doesn’t bounce back and we’re stuck paying him 5 mil for 4 more years. Also, even with the protection, there’s a very good chance that pick just gets pushed back to 2022 and is still a top 10 pick.

I wouldn't be doing this. Is Cirelli a legit 2C or does he look like one on a stacked TB roster?

We will draft and hope Veleno or someone else develops into a strong 2C.

I think the biggest problems isn’t if Cirelli is worth a potential 9th OA (he is, especially in 2021) but what the 2022 draft holds as Stinson says. 2022 is shaping up to be a good draft (2021 looks decent) - if you’re gonna protect that pick in 2021 than I’d bet Tampa prays to god that you protect it so they get 2022

Cirelli is definitely great but having a 2022 first from a bad team be traded to tampa smells like a disaster for anyone trying to compete with Tampa

I think Cirelli is a good 2C and his personal play shows he isn’t hyped by his team around him but they sure do help - it definitely would be a big test for him to become your 1/2C (I know Larkin is 1) - but Cirelli doesn’t play with kucherov or point so he’s not getting the best of the best (not getting carried by stars) on his wings from Tampa

The 2021 draft definitely gets a bad rap because defensemen aren’t flashy or super sexy picks. When you have guys like Lambos, Clarke, Power, Hughes, etc. with massive potential that really makes you think what your defense could look like with guys like Hronek, Seider, Wallinder, Johansson, etc. You could even get a good center in guys like Raty, Johnson, Berniers, etc. It will definitely be interesting to see what teams do with their first/second round picks because maybe some guys get under scouted this year?

Oh there’s still definitely good players but I think if your Detroit a chance at Shane Wright in 2022 is a can’t miss - collect firsts/ seconds that year (like Ottawa this year)

Why would Detroit do this? Detroit will be in the bottom 3 this season so that means Detroit gives up a shot a Tyler Wright for Cirelli and a cap dump? How is that good for Detroit?

Absolutely no way. Forget the value of the pick, but we're almost guaranteed to be a bottom 8 pick next year which would push the pick to the Wright/Lambert/Savoie draft. Hell. No.
