100% agree with all of this, why didn't habs trade down for to at lest like 7th to get Kotkaniemi, I know they did want to risk it but when a guy is expected to go like 13th to 15th range it is a safe bet no one is picking him at 7th

He might have been a reach but his NHL impact is very positive. He's a solid NHLer, unlike Jack Hughes.

It’s been one year. Look up joe Thornton’s rookie season. Sometimes kids don’t translate 100 percent yet.

Technically Hughes, Kakko and Kotkaniemi aren't prospects anymore... all have played a full season in the NHL and have lost their rookie status.

Other players you could list are Nick Robertson, Ryan Merkley and Alexander Newhook.

Oh i dont disagree with that take but to be as confident now as you were when he was drafted seems .... silly? there's very very few "generational" players drafted imo. Laff might be the next 1oa to let everyone down when he doesn't score 80 points his rookie year. i think people expectations are way high bc players like malkin crosby ovechkin mcdavid matthews .... and they think all players draft 1oa or 2oa should be like thtese guys

yeah Jack Hughes is probably going to be a 65 to 75 point guy in his career and like Lafreniere is all ready better them him

He’s definitely not a generational talent. (Idk who said that) but he’s definitely going to be a star. Generational is thrown out too often these days. The only generational talents in the league are Mcdavid, Crosby, Ovechkin and maybe Mackinnon.

I’ve seen him play at BC. Extremely talented.

It's whoever your rivals top prospect is.

i would throw MAlkin into that conversation.
