Chicago isn't taking MAF's full cap hit unless it includes a lot more then a 3rd and the only reason they'd want him is because of what else is offered and a 3rd isn't remotely interesting.

If the Hawks wanted Fleury, it would have happened by now. Even if the goaltending goes “bust” this season, acquiring a veteran like Fleury is a band-aid solution and goes against the youth movement philosophy.

The direction ( a realistic view, imo) will be Bowman sniffing around for available prospects. With Matt Murray Matt now in Ottawa, it may be fate the Hawks pursue one of the Senator’s prospects. Gustavsson seems to be a credible choice.
