Errrrr he'll be getting more than that per year. Not to mention a defensive forward isn't going to make you an offensive superpower

We can offer up to almost 5 million for any amount of time, that’s WITHOUT making any more moves. There’s a lot of flexibility for the pens right now

Let’s focus more on the trade because the pens can still afford to pay Cirelli significantly more than what is shown here

laugh laugh First off that's not nearly enough for Anthony Cirelli, And secondly if Cirelli were willing to sign for 3 years $9 million he'd already be resigned by Tampa.

Is adding a 20 goal 50 point young center going to single handedly Turn you into an offensive superpower? No.

But in case you didn’t notice Cirelli is not the onLy forward on the team, nor the only player added this offseason

Consensus is I’ve underpaid him so I went and fixed that. Right now Tampa can’t afford to sign him at all due to having money locked up and having other RFAs. If they can’t work things out a first, second and top prospect is exactly in line with what similar players fetch in trades. I can happily add a roster player too, but presumably Tampa does not want one because cap hell

So where are you going to put Cirelli? Knowing that you've both Crosby and Malkin as your 1C and 2C respectively. You honestly going to pay Cirelli $5 mil per long term fpr 3C duties that would be ridiculous.

I could see Cirelli taking 1 year @ $5M. Anything longer than that is going to require a higher AAV.

Who said anything about long term lol? You clearly are not following the penguins if you think “long term” is a term that even exists for us rn

I think 2 years could be on the table for him too. Basically all comes down to when he and his agent think covid will not be an issue anymore and he can go get his big $$$

If Anthony Cirelli were on the block, 29 other teams could easily blow away your offer. Your 1st and 2nd are late in the late 20's perhaps early 30's if Pitt should win the cup. And Legare meh Brisebois would want more then that. Can guarantee you big time. If Cirelli is on the market Yzerman will go after him big time and offer far better then this.

Yeah well he's not going to take short term deals forever, I can see being cautious with short term deals during the pandemic. But once that's over all bets are off.

Nobody said Cirelli is actively being shopped lol. This is armchair GM where fans make posts about crazy what ifs. What if negotiations break down and he then becomes available? Then you are welcome to trade your entire farm for a defensive center lol but teams aren’t going to give up tons of assets to teams that literally MUST get rid of good players. Not during covid.

Okay so why would this be relevant? I could care less if he goes and plays somewhere else after 1 or 2 years. Don’t you get it, man? 1-2 years is all that exists for the pens.

After that, for all we know Geno bugs off to Russia and Letang gets overpaid by some other team and we tank hard.if you really want to go down the “what are the pens gunna do in two years route” then it honestly helps my argument. Letang and Genos contracts run up and we can afford to give Cirelli a massive pay raise should he earn it.

It's less about that and more for establishing a baseline for next season's RFA. If he gets a $5M contract now, that becomes the new QO next season. When he becomes arbitration eligible, it gives his camp that much of an easier time to get a reward closer to what he wants.

You're better at throwing him an offer sheet and hope he bites, More then Brisebois trading either him or Sergachev. And even then you'd need to offer him in the range of $7 mil per just to pay him similar of $5 mil per in Tampa.

19 goals and 44 points in 68 games from a 23 year old.

I feel pretty comfortable saying he’s a 20 goal scorer and a 50 point getter in the coming years, why do you not?

I’ve already made offer sheet threads. Doing that again would be very boring and very repetitive. Also you need to read up on offer sheets because Tampa would get less from an offer sheet (just another reason Tampa isn’t going to be able to move the guy for like 5 first round picks or whatever the heck you seem to think he’s worth, pens are already giving Tampa more than an offer sheet would give them)

Tampa bay doesn’t have income tax, correct, but pittsburgh is a far, far, far cheaper place to live and you are seriously overstating the importance of local tax rates in this deal.

Cirelli is not getting 7 million no matter where he goes. Not in a cap league during the pandemic that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve read all day

Cant the pens just offer him 4.363M or below and just give up a 2nd round pick Comp. Or offer him 6.5M to 4.363M and just give up a 1st and and 3rd?? Why give up Legare the 1st and 2nd? Just for the rights to match if someone else offers him? Or to keep a good relationship with TB’s GM?? I understand wanting those things. Especially the relationship with the GM. That’s why most don’t offer sheet other players. But just seems like a lot to lose instead of the offer sheet

I’d prefer an offer sheet too, but I felt like a trade today. I’ve done tons of offer sheets already. It’s a lot to give up but honestly I think it would be worth it. JR isn’t the kind of GM to do an offer sheet, would really surprise me

And yes, I believe it’s the relationship thing I mentioned with other GM’s. I read an article on it once. Why’s arnt there more offer sheets in the NHL. You could probably google it and find it. It was acouple years ago though.

I think Legare is closer than Poulin. Atleast the last I read it seems like it. And the right-handed shot on Legare is huge. We need that. Legare had those 3 goals in last years pre-season(the 2 goals in 10 second game). And was the best young player in training camp. He’s our scoring prospect. And we need those entry level contracts. Every team does. You have to let them be ready. Like the Pirates did with K.Hayes this year. You need that mix of young and old and definitely need those cheap, entry level contracts on young, play-making, or scoring prospects. Like Seattle Seahawks in their SB years. Like us in 16-17. We had Guentzel, Rust(two top 6) on entry level deals. And Maatta and Dumoulin on entry level.
