Easy no from Chicago. $5M retained? LMAO, that offers gets a signed stick from Patty Kane's last hat trick.

Fast no from Montreal. You'd be more likely to get Caufield, but you're not getting Kotkaniemi.

Montreal is not giving up both Kotkaniemi and Caufield for Kane. We would rather go through 1-2 more years of team/roster building and have our young potential stars develop to their potential and be competitive for 10-15 years after that, than to bring in an aging star like Kane and be competitive for 3-4 years now then have to endure a 3rd rebuild/retool in 15 years.

No it's not. Tatar is whatever...guy is turning 30 so doesn't fit our rebuild. Not a fan of Kotkaniemi, he's never going to live up to his draft position IMO and will be a 2nd C at best. Don't need another midget on our team in Caufield although I do like him. So basically this is Caufield, Kotkaniemi and a 2nd for Kane at $5M retained....that's crazy and will never happen. If you want Kane, it's going to have to include a 1st rounder, Romanav, and then some and Hawks will never retain more then $3M on Kane at most.

Why would Habs give up all that youth for an aging player on the decline

I think the problem with Kane is that no one is willing to give up the assets for a fair trade. Like realistically if Kane is being traded with 50% retention and a cap dump is coming back, he should bring back an absolute haul. 50% retention is a lot for someone of his caliber who is arguably outperforming his contract already.

A lot of people on here don't see the value in Kane and that derives from most of them not actually watching him play and just seeing his age. It doesn't matter what his workout routine is or how dedicated he is or whether his game is mental or physical. Hawks fans see another St Louis career which is completely reasonable considering Kane has gotten much better after the "traditional prime years". It really would be unfair for any team to trade what some are proposing for a 31+ career of St Louis'.

Honestly, I don't mind either way because if we trade him it helps us rebuild so that we can resign him after his contract is over. Also giving me a little playoff excitement haha. And I'm totally ok with no trading him.

At the end of the day, people can bring up age but his numbers don't lie and getting that sort of production at ~5M is absurd.

I can totally understand Montreal not wanting to give up their youth and building from within.

But, I wouldn't describe Kane as "on the decline". That's really not fair considering his production has only increased with age.

Aging curves are not always linear and Kane's style of play is the prototypical example of someone who can produce effectively at a older age.

overpayment for a guy past 30 who scores a lot of points but who's a big liability defensively. No thanks.

You mean one of the most prolific play makers in the game even today. He's a setup guy who's still a top 5 winger in the league and top 10 forward hands down. Yes, defensively he's not good, but his transition game, passing and shot are still top of the league.

MTL is not a good fit, they aren't ready for a cup, but a team like the Avs or Vegas would put them over the top with Kane.

None of this matters, Kane isn't waiving (especially for a canadian team) and Hawks aren't retaining anything close to $5M anyway.

A lot of people on here don't have a clue honestly. They overvalue draft picks, and don't understand the value to wining a cup and just how much revenue that brings a team. A team truly competing, MTL is not and Kane would never waive to go there, would be all over a Kane trade IF he was available.

Kane has more hardware to his name then most teams do on their entire roster combined.

Even with no rentention, easy pass from Montreal. Hawks fans need to stop living from 6 seasons ago.

Chicago isn't doing this. Montréal wouldn't be able to pass. Maybe watch Kane, he is the same from 6 years ago.

Montreal wouldn't do it. Doesn't matter if you think Kane is the same as he was 6 years ago. Habs wouldn't give up that much for a guy over 30 with very few years left on his deal. They'll get more use out of what was asked to give up. Doesn't make any sense to give up that much for Kane when Kane doesn't even fit Montreal's window to win. Easy pass.

It’s the whole “well what has he done recently?” Bug... just because there’s no cup the last few years they think he is irrelevant to hockey. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ Montreal has never had an elite forward, they rely on the 6 guys making 5-6M. This deal would be perfect for both sides. CHI fast tracks the rebuild. Montreal makes it deep in playoffs and likely wins a cup in those 3 years before their franchise G retires. Yes, it’s a lot to lose but in 94 the rangers gave up Doug Weight and Tony Amonte to raise a cup. Dallas moves Iginla to win..

Ignore him, he trolls Hawks fans as half his activity on here. As a Leafs fans, he likely doesn't get out of his Leafs box so isn't aware how good Kane still is.

Hawks won't trade Kane and highly unlikely he would waive. However even in fantasy world, the trade is not enough for $5M of retention on Kane; for $2M or $2.5M maybe but not $5M. They need to throw in a first unconditional. Even then, personally I say no as I'm not high on Kotkaniemi. Ramonov and Caufield would have to be the key prospects coming back and remove Tatar as we have zero use for him rebuilding. A cap dump could be included like Paul Byron.
