Lol, We're paying Kyle Okposo more. At least it's one year. Hall and Staal likely gone by then.

So he's gonna get his stats boosted by playing with Eichel and Hall, and then will get overpaid or traded. Looks like nobody wants to play in Buffalo.

Tired: No one wants to play in Buffalo.

Wired: Sabres made the right financial decision so they can build a competitive team now and use opened cap(Okposo,Hutton,Staal,Hall, etc.) to extend him in a better position next year.

Since most people had him going for 7mil, this at one year looks pretty good

I have no clue what you are trying to say, you are talking like if Buffalo had no capspace and need to wait a year to add a couple millions on his AAV.

Every deal that doesn't buy free agency years is a bad deal for Buffalo. It just keeps the door open for Reinhart to hit the market at 27 y.o.

If they signed Reinhart long-term it probably means they couldn't afford to sign Hall and all their RFA's. They have even more cap opening next off-season and can simply extend him next off-season longterm.

It's a good deal by itself but as a whole this organization has been really badly managed for about a half decade

They have the two hardest things to get: a franchise c and franchise d in Eichel and dahlin. They really should be better built by now.

They won't be in a better position next year. They have to sign Dahlin and Jokiharju.

This is a decent deal in a vacuum but if he goes to arbitration again next season after boosting his stats with Hall and Eichel for another 1 year deal that brings him to UFA, this will be very bad.

I think the Sabres should play him on the second line and let him try to drive his own line.

They might do that. He's a UFA in 2022 tho not 2021. I still think they'll have something done around Okposo and one the of the defenseman. Hall and Staal are gone so the cap works for the core.

Yes he won't be a UFA at the end of this season but he will be at the end of next season. If be brings them to arbitration again after this season he'll be a UFA.

They'll be fine with the cap if they bridge Dahlin but I'm not sure about a long term deal.

I think they should've went long term - what could it have been, 6.5-7m for a long term contract? Reinhart, being better than his counting stats, is exactly the type of player to go long with before he explodes in counting stats. I don't think this is a smart move for Buffalo, again, from a long term point of view.

Well he's most likely gonna get a massive boost in production if he plays on a line with Hall and Eichel.

Probably not if he plays with Skinner and Staal.

Staal's kinda good though, and Skinner too if he has some good playmaking linemates. If those are Buffalo's two top lines I think they both produce. But in the end, he's a really good player regardless, and that's why I think they should've gone long term.

That makes no sense.

You are telling me that to save a couple milions this year, they will risk Reinhart improving his stats and asking even more later, making him harder to resign long term and raising the risk of him leaving on the free agency market.

I cant believe the team would do such poor asset management. It's more likely that Reinhart doesn't want a long term deal in Buffalo what so ever.

He might not have wanted to go long term either unless he got an overpayment like Skinner.

I'm not the one who made that decision but they feel that was the best way to go about it. Sacrifice for now.

It's possible ha said "no, I'm not signing in a flat cap season", and if that's the case, Buffalo did nothing wrong of course. But at the same time, I believe they still have the space to go, say 6.75, over 6 years or something. It's so hard to say whether or not this is a good move without more context, but if they had an opportunity to go long and didn't, I think that's the wrong move.
