To begin with, Florida wouldn't trade their first-round pick in 2020 (Lundell) for a first-round pick in 2021even if it was guaranteed to be the 12th overall again, which it isn't. So leave those two elements out of this.
Now look at the players' respective contracts. Florida has paid Ekblad's $4 million signing bonus already, so that money would be lost to them. Furthermore, Ekblad costs them only $2 million more this year. In contrast, Laine is owed $7.5 million this year. Moreover, he's a free agent at the end of the season, when his cap hit and salary can be expected to increase beyond what Florida is paying Ekblad over the term of HIS contract. In short, a team with Florida's serious financial considerations wouldn't give this trade another thought -- and that's without even starting to talk about the wisdom of trading away their two best defenders without immediate internal replacements.
