What the Lightning should do

Créé par: Devil
Équipe: 2020-21 Lightning de Tampa Bay
Date de création initiale: 24 oct. 2020
Publié: 24 oct. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Sign RFAs to 1 year deals and next offseason when they free up cap space with Seattle taking one of Gourde, Killoron, McDonagh, etc, they could have enough cap space to sign all of them to long term deals. I know these offers are very low but if they want to repeat as cup champs, they should take a 1 year deal and cash in next season.

Both Cirelli and Sergachev would sign offer sheets, Before they'd accept those low ball offers.

How exactly do they cash in next season given it will be a flat cap and no significant contracts are coming off the books? This is a ton of risk on those players as injuries or poor performances could financially effect them.

We would have to pay to have Seattle take him. So we would want more

Honestly I don't think these guys worry about injuries that much and they'll take less to stay in Tampa.

ISSUE is next year worse .. Coleman and Goodrow up for contracts and none go away. BUT situation is not that dire albeit tight.

    1. TJ will go somewhere in NHL but will cost us a 2nd and prospect..
    2. I would trade Gourde now and if cant/he says no .. waive him now.
    3. TJ and Gourde are due $11M a year and $45M total .. if can't trade then now; forget next year as it will get worse. Tampa "saves" over $5M in Cap for next 4/5 years .. yea $6M dead money also but it all about freeing up space for next couple years.
    4. Killorn and/or Palat would need to go this and next year .. again worse case if we eat 2/3 of TJ and Gourde contract over next 6 years.

This gets us to give 3 year contracts to RFAs ...

BETTER Strategy is to start to move Stamkos and Mc Donough next 2 years with Stamkos to LTIR ASAP.
HAVE to free up money for Point in 2022 and RFAs in 2024

All three of the RFA are gone if that's your offer.

See I have said this in the past. The right move was to move Stamkos. They didn't need him to win a cup, and someone would take that contract. Even if you didn't get much back for it.
But it's clear TB has made the internal decision to say Stamkos is worth more than 2 of those RFAs. And they would rather lose them than him. I'm not saying I agree with that....but that appears to be the decision they made.

They tried to move Stamkos to Vegas and even asked him to waive .. you do not ask if not real. . It will happen soon ..

Everyone thought Point would rather leave than sign $6.75 x 3. Tampa has everything these players could want (no state taxes, good weather, low media pressure but heavy fan support, competent management, and a contender who just won it all) and a culture around taking discounts. I doubt these players are looking for offer sheets and it’s not a coincidence that things always find a way to work for Tampa.

I hate to break it to you, that argument don't mean jack. They won their cup. They good. Time to cash in.
