Why trade for a 2C when you already have 2 1C's?

Naturally Couture with Hertl the 1C but with the underrated Donato able to play C maybe 3 options

So the deal itself without the conditional pick is Gambrell and a 2nd for Patrick? (Correct me if I'm wrong here). Cause that deal is steep for a guy who hasn't played a NHL game in over a year and a half, but only one 2nd might be worth it if he can bounce back.

We're not in any dire need for a 2C, but at 3C he could look nice and eventually work his way into the top 6...if he stays healthy. I'm not sure if the Sharks take this risk though. His injuries don't give me much hope.

Honestly I'd happily do that for a former 2nd overall pick, even if it's a 10% chance his career rights itself (probably 50% as it stands) 2nd rounders have about a 10% chance of producing an NHLer, not an onerous situation while hoping for his recovery either

Also SJ could use some hope for the future

Fatal flaw in the logic of the Patrick trade.... Only way the flyers trade him like this is if they think he's pretty much done. If they decide to trade him then the Sharks will know their assessment of the situation and as a result they'll have no reason to trade 2 2nd rounders for him. Patrick has a 1% chance of being traded this year, and that very tiny 1% close to 0% is only if the Flyers get a big name, and a team takes a risk for Patrick as part of the deal.

Flyers at this point keep Patrick and hope he becomes a good player and can play moving forward. Otherwise we just let him fizzle out. He's not tradeable because his potential is too valuable, but his injury history plummets the chance Philly gets any value in a trade, therefore it makes no sense.

also, the Laine trade is awful for Philly. Not saying the value is necessarily off, but Myers is almost untradeable at this point since Nisky retired. That right side of the defense looks gross. These trades are just poor asset management.

Yeah I agree, but with the Sharks organization being so uncertain in its future right now, giving away any picks isn't a great idea imo. Not saying that Patrick isn't worth that kind of return, but it's just a big gamble. I do think the risk is somewhat worth it if the Flyers were interested in moving him (which is somewhat unlikely but I digress), but it's just tough to know.

Agree
Just not 2022 2nd rounder because 22 draft will be good and deap like this years.
