Fatal flaw in the logic of the Patrick trade.... Only way the flyers trade him like this is if they think he's pretty much done. If they decide to trade him then the Sharks will know their assessment of the situation and as a result they'll have no reason to trade 2 2nd rounders for him. Patrick has a 1% chance of being traded this year, and that very tiny 1% close to 0% is only if the Flyers get a big name, and a team takes a risk for Patrick as part of the deal.
Flyers at this point keep Patrick and hope he becomes a good player and can play moving forward. Otherwise we just let him fizzle out. He's not tradeable because his potential is too valuable, but his injury history plummets the chance Philly gets any value in a trade, therefore it makes no sense.
also, the Laine trade is awful for Philly. Not saying the value is necessarily off, but Myers is almost untradeable at this point since Nisky retired. That right side of the defense looks gross. These trades are just poor asset management.
