All players with no movement clauses at the time of the draft, and who decline to waive those clauses, must be protected and will be counted toward their team's applicable protection limits.
Oilers don't do that trade....they have two NHL goalies. Don't see Florida trading Weegar either if he is a 3.1m player. Rosen and Anderson mean nothing in a NHL trade.
Still an unpractical 21 man roster.
In a year that's likely going to be no more than 60 games, where we're likely to see a lot more back to backs, having a 21 man roster and praying for a bounce back year from Dell seems like a poor strategy.

Actually, I've proposed this type of trade a few times and oilers fans have been quite receptive. Granted it's usually with Holl/Engvall added on. Anyway, the point is get rid of him for a pick, maybe a 3rd but more likely a 4th/5th and to whoever wants him. Use Dell as the back-up to save money.
As for the 21 man roster, this is perfectly feasible for the myriad of reasons numerous people have outlined on other threads (call-ups, covid, travel squads etc.)

His numbers are pretty similar to Campbells (granted though Campbells are better). However, he is literally twice the price of Dell and by doing what I've done we have the upgrade on D with Weegar. I'm taking Weegar over Campbell personally

Well, I know the folks like 21 man rosters but that. doesn't make them practical. Short term illnesses or injuries are not LTIR eligible, so now you're talking about teams having just 18 or 19 eligible players to pay
If the Oiler had wanted a third goalie....and you think he is as good as Campbell, wouldn't the Oilers been much better off signing Dell, for much less than Campbell and then they could have kept their pick. So I don't find this so called cap saving trade for the Leafs practical at all for the Oilers.
