Description
What are the Leafs going to do with Joey Anderson? I don't think they traded Johnson for nothing, so I believe he'll be on the team, at least at first. Thoughts?

Also, as far as salary cap goes, I think there is only one solution for this year. Despite having depth on the wing, outside of Nylander and Marner, Hyman is our most expensive winger at 2.25mil. Economically speaking, there isn't really a winger to trade that will save us any cap space, at least not without making the team worse. A lot of ACGMs have Kerfoot on the move, but I'd be hanging on to him. Speed and skill drop off pretty quickly down the middle, even after the addition of Thornton. I think Holl has to go, especially considering the additions on the back end in Brodie, Bogosian, and Lehtonen. Sandin and Liljegren are 1 year into their ELC's and need to start playing. All of this makes Holl's 2mil/yr expendable, not that he is really overpaid or anything. Then the question is: Would you rather have Anderson and Dermott, or Holl? Given the fact that the Leafs turned down a trade that would have sent Johnson and Dermott to FLA for Weegar, I think they want to hold on to Dermott. Johnson was sent to NJ for Anderson, so I don't think you're letting him go either. So that leaves Holl.

Moving out Holl gets us just under the cap for this year, but I still believe Marner will be the odd man out after this season and KD will be forced to trade him thanks to these ridiculous contracts... Especially if the Leafs fall short again this year, then I believe not only will Marner be on the move, but likely Dubas as well. Curious to hear everyone else's take on this Leafs' off-season, and projections for the upcoming season.

How many times do we need to say this? I'll repeat it in multiple languages and maybe then Leafs fans will grasp this simple fact....

The Flames do not have the cap space.
Les Flames n'ont pas d'espace pour le plafond.
Las llamas no tienen espacio en el tope.
Die Flammen haben keinen Platz für die Kappe.
Οι φλόγες δεν έχουν χώρο στο καπάκι.

Haha. It really wasn’t about the flames at all, I just picked a random team. Sorry it triggered you so bad. Would it make you feel better if I edited the trade to include a note saying “any team”?

This was a post about the leafs and needing to clear cap space. You clearly missed the point 😐

it's just that it seems like there is like 10 a day of Holl to Calgary and in every one someone says we don't have space, but no one ever listens.

Also if I were triggered, I wouldn't have tried to make the response amusing with languageues like Hawaiian and Swahilli

Hey, maybe you’re right and I just haven’t been paying attention to other Leaf fans. I honestly didn’t look because that wasn’t the point of this post. So in the interest of us getting along, let’s say in this hypothetical scenario he goes to... Ottawa. Okay?

Pretty sound logic here for the most part.

I think Robertson probably doesn't play that much and vesey will probably be that 3rd line winger on opening night. Also worth mentioning that it's highly unlikely Thornton and Spezza play every game and will probably have to be rotated in with other depth forwards. Does Engvall basically get pushed off of the roster because of his cap hit? out of the people i'd want being replacements, he's about top of the list but they seemingly have so many replacement level wingers i guess it doesn't really matter(your 4th line shouldn't make or break your season).

Also on the D-side, yes I think something has to give and Holl seems like the most appropriate option to move cap-wise, but I would personally prefer him to Dermott in general but holl also plays the right side and there are other D men like lehtonen that are going to be very strong candidates to make the team(lehtonen is considered the best d man in the KHL)

Ultimately, this is the type of problem you want to have, but I would be wary of a team getting to hands-on with the roster and not giving it time to gel together. Often I think the bottom end of a roster seems to just sort itself out if you leave it alone

Yes, the 3rd line to me is the biggest question mark. Could easily rotate Thornton and Spezza out of the line up for load management, put Anderson on the 4th line and have Vesey play on the 3rd. Robertson's spot could easily be taken by Engvall or 1 of literally 12 other guys who will be trying to earn it... I see 2 bottom six roles that need to be filled, and 14 players that could fill them. Same with our 3rd pair defense. This is a great situation to be in heading into a compressed season that will most likely allow some sort of taxi squad.

The Leafs cap situation is so blown out of proportion, they are in a much better situation than TB, Islanders, Van I'd say even Calgary plus a few others if I did some homework. They have the Boyd's and Malgins who would need to clear waivers to be sent down and likely will, they could lose Dell I guess but I'm assuming other teams passed on him looking at his 1 year 800K deal - Robertson to Europe or OHL, Engvall waiver exempt, Sandin and Liljegren waiver exempt, can leave Barabonov in the KHL. Push comes to shove moving out Engvall, Holl or Kerfoot is very doable if KD is adamant on icing a 23 man roster which history says he's not.
