Description
Bowman wants to get younger, Tampa has 3 RFA's they're trying to shed cap for. Something tells me Bowman is looking at Sergachev. Ben Pope reported last week that one of De Haan or Murphy might be in play to another team. I don't think Strome will be on this team long, they're in no rush to sign him, and Wallmark is capable as a 3C.

In this scenario, Dach shifts to the wing to work on his offensive game. He likely stays a C, but just for the sake of another trade, I kept Strome as 2C. This trade opens up space for Cernak, Tampa is likely going to need to make another move regardless of their first trade. They need to shed $10-12M or lose an RFA. They choose to lose an RFA at this point. Hawks snag Sergachev and take Johnson as a cap dump, this trade saves Tampa about $3M in space, allowing them to sign Cernak and leaving Cirelli as the only big RFA left (Everyone knows it'll take Tampa at least 2 trades to get out of this situation or major discounts from all RFAs.

I actually think this team can push for a playoff spot. Suter reminds me a lot of Kubalik, Dach will take another step, Strome as 2C should boost his confidence and numbers back to where they were in 18-19. McElhinney will likely get a lot of starts in this scenario (This is probably the only thing that goes against Bowman's words, because he's old).

In the offseason, Janmark, McElhinney, and Strome depart. The return for Strome will be interesting. Shaw and Murphy might be put on the block, and they'll explore buying out Seabrook.

If Brisebois deals Johnson then Sergachev isn't going anywhere, No reason to deal Johnson and still lose Sergachev. Trading both Killorn and Johnson opens up almost $9.5 million. And the Hawks are heading towards a rebuild here shortly fat chance Johnson waives for Chicago especially for 3rd line minutes.

I expect that to be an easy no for Tampa. They're not dealing Sergachev for a complete pile of garbage and it's not like Johnson is waiving his NTC for a rebuilding team.

In terms of value, Sergachev will likely cost CHI at least Boqvist and then some or Dach. Namely a NHL level prospect running on ELC. Otherwise it's a nonstarter for them.

Tampa Bay needs to unload 4 years of Johnson at 5 million a year. Do you think that's going to be easy? It's not. Nobody is trading top prospects back. That mindset is why Tampa hasn't made any progress in trade talks.

But they haven't found a deal to a team for either. They're also not the only team looking to shed salary. Vancouver, Vegas, and Arizona also looking to shed cap. It's going to turn into a bidding war to become cap compliant.

Exactly, That why teams like Detroit, New Jersey and Ottawa stand to gain some nice assets if they play their cards right.

With Tampa having all those NTC's, who's going to waive for any of those teams?

True Johnson will only want to waive for a contending team, And most of them are cap strapped. Like to see how Brisebois wiggles his way out of that mess without losing one of Cirelli or Sergachev. Wont be easy.

Oh come on, TB would be insanely stupid to move Johnson and Sergachev in the same package. Johnson is a decent player, but the biggest problem is his NTC and it doesn't seem he wants to waive it. But eventually they'll move the guy and use that money to re-sign Sergachev. They'd much rather use picks and/or prospects to compensate the need. And as I said before, with CHI rebuilding there's virtually no chance Johnson would waive his NTC in the first place.

The teams with the cap space have picks/prospects and are in worse shape than Chicago. At some point, they're going to have to give up a roster spot. It took the hawks trading Teravainen to Carolina to get one year of Bickell's contract out of Chicago and I'd imagine it'll take something even more drastic to unload Johnson's contract in this economy.

A decision that CHI definitely regrets. Think Brisebois and other GMs have learned from Bowman's mistake.

Besides, the issue isn't about the assets that TB would have to give as compensation to dump Johnson in - the issue is about Johnson not agreeing to go in many locations.

No, a large part of it is the assets TB would have to give up. It has to be an impact player. Teams wanted a 1st and 2nd for two years of Fleury with 50% retention. I can't imagine any team would do double the term and $1.5M more for a 30 year old. Fleury can be a starter, whereas Johnson is a middle 6 F.

Which is why Vegas decided to keep Fleury. Those demands are stupidly excessive.

Honestly TB should deal Sergachev himself for a greater package and just keep Johnson if that happens. The stupidest thing they can do is use a player like Sergachev as a compensation to move Johnson...just move Sergy and get a good ransom for him.

The whole point of moving Johnson is to resign Sergachev. I don't think the Lightning accept this. It's not a smart move. It's like what we did with Teravainen and Bickel
