Description
Tough now because of their cap hits and the flat cap situation, but if you're LA, how does holding onto Kopitar and Doughty make sense? Major rebuild taking place, get stuff for them while you still can...

Trades are just ideas, not sure what teams would really make sense. Have to be contenders tho.

Trades might not be balanced great, let me know why and how they should look.

Again just mixing in some new ideas for discussion instead of the same old same all the time. Obvioulsy these are longshot ideas. But if you're LA why wouldn't you explore trading these two?

I know its weird, but MTL doesn't need a center. And that trade would put MTL over the cap by a good amount and then they would have to trade tatar or drouin or someone like that.

Exactly! That's the spirit. Crazy to hold onto them with sreadily declining value and contention is years away.

Not going to happen. Blake has already been quoted saying that the rebuild is happening with Kopitar and Doughty as the core. They're not going anywhere before their current contracts end.

Man I like kopitar but hes 33 making 10 million in a flat cap world. Teams just dont wa.t that unless you take a good chunk of money back. You arent going to get full value for him either.

Montreal is a hard pass, a 33 year old Kopitar with a $10M cap hit for 4 seasons.

Edmonton is also a hard pass at that, Doughty for $11M and you're making them pay to take Neal?

both of these players are over valued for the point they are at in their careers. The terms and dollar value are actually negatives and would result in less return.

You hold onto those players because they are going to be excellent mentors. What Kopitar will be able to teach Byfield and Doughty will be able to teach any defensive prospect they have will help massively in building a strong foundation to have a wiiiide open cup window in the future. They're still producing and strong at their positions. You need some production / key players even in a rebuild.

It's worth mentioning that both Kopitar and Doughty are also still quite productive as of right now. Further, Kopitar's deal expires at the same time as Byfield's ELC (should he slide for a season). Even beyond that deal, it's not a long-term commitment to a $10M Kopitar, where a much cheaper deal would be easily negotiated as Byfield, Turcotte, and Vilardi take the reigns of the forward core.

Doughty's three years younger than Kopitar: if we extend the same line of thought that both men are decent into their 36 year-old seasons, the Kings are only going to have one year of Doughty being bad (bit of an assumption, but nevertheless). That level of talent on the back end when most every other piece is ready to be in-place is invaluable.

IMO it’s because their contracts make them almost unmovable. Even if they were both worth their contracts (very debatable), very few teams have 10 million dollars lying around to trade for a superstar, and the few teams that do are rebuilding teams in the same boat as LA. Any trade would have to involve similar salaries going back which almost certainly means another star coming back to LA which makes the trade counterproductive.

Sure, but they won't. Kopitar and Doughty will never leave LA unless it is of their own accord. They will play their entire careers and retire as Kings. They'll have their jerseys retired and likely get statues in front of Staples Center along with the other career Kings, Brown and Quick.

The rebuild is almost finished, they have almost all pieces drafted and after next draft its really just developing from there. So why should they do it? Because it certainly doesn't make sense for the Kings.

What is "effing stupid" is your lack of understanding from a business standpoint. If the Kings traded both Kopitar and Doughty, you can surely expect a total dive downward in ticket sales and revenue, clown.

They can still contend. At least I thought they could before this offseason then rutherford decided to do rutherford things.

Thats not entirely true. Arguably some Dustin Browns best seasons were as a 33 year old and 34 year old
Look at Giordano.

Especially not with Kopitar and Doughty. Kopitar hasn't slowed down at all and is the same player he's always been. Just watch him or just look at his production. He would have gotten over 70 points if it was a full season.

Doughty got 5 points in 5 games 5 times last season and 6 points in 5 games once. He's not declining. He's on a rebuilding team. Its common sense...
