Description

Entirely fanciful but a great idea to dream about.

I added the 2022 second to the original offer (made by a newly-joined Toronto fan).

Note that due to the terms of the contracts of Marner, Getzlaf, Backes, Fowler and Lindholm, the actual payroll is $21 million less than the cap hit total.

My colleague Lenny7 points out that the right side of the defense is dubious, but Rome wasn't built in a day.

For future reference, Maxime Comtois is exempt from the expansion draft, but Isac Lundestrom isn't.

Feel free to suggest RD improvements. Mindful that Getzlaf's and Backes' contracts come off the books this summer and only Heinen, Steel and Jones need to be re-signed, maybe that waits until next year.

The idea of Marner/Zegras makes me happy and bubbly inside, but I don't think Toronto ever makes the move.

If they were to do it, I'd be trying to move Silfverberg for a dman ASAP.

You're overvaluing an unproven entity, which is understandable given the position the Ducks are currently in (they should be valuing their prospects highly). The Leafs would be crazy to even offer that - especially given their situation - and the Ducks would be crazy not to at least entertain the idea.

No. Jones for Liljegren has a lot of appeal, though. And I have a sneaking suspicion @Jamiepo would prefer Comtois for Liljegren (due at least in part to the expansion draft).

All good, I don’t see them giving up on Liljegren. Leafs have invested too much time not to give him a chance. I’m still hopeful he turns into a top 4 D

I'd certainly entertain it, but it's just not a feasible trade. Ducks take on that cap hit (which they can't fit), without trading away a major contract or two.

I also think the Leafs would be out of their minds if they traded Marner for prospects/picks. The window is open! Fill the holes and go for it!

I think two cost control: top6D +top4D make alot of sense + 2021 1st
Rakell is a big buddy who would hit 60-70pts in Toronto next to JT... and Manson would close the D weaknesses
I think it worth it... but at the end... it will never happen!

The last thing the Ducks need is trading one of the highest ranking defensive prospects, a first round pick, and whatever other prospect you greedy fans want for someone who only makes plays and not pulls 30+ goals like the Ducks actually need. Not to mention a horrid 11 mil contract which we’d have to move more of our players because we wouldn’t have any space for him.
