Why give up all that, just offer sheet him at 5M x 5 and Blues won't be able to match and only cost you a 1st and a 3rd

If Steen stays on LTIR all year, which is looking like a possibility, I'd only want the Blues to trade Dunn if they can get back a high-impact young winger like an Ehlers/Vrana type. Otherwise, the move they'd be tied to would have to be futures-based to save the cap space, and they won't win that deal; giving up a guy who is entering his prime for some hopefuls in the name of cap savings sounds awful to me.

In your deal here, i don't necessarily like the idea of banking on Mittlestadt, but it's McCabe that would be the deal-breaker. That wouldn't save the Blues any cap space and it doesn't add anything we don't already have.

Fair enough, forgot about McCabe's cap. Maybe if some was retained it'd be more interesting but fair enough. Dunn's going to be expensive, and blues have a lot of cap tied on long term defenseman, Faulk, Krug, and Scandella. If Steen stay on Ltir, then yeah they probably have no reason to move him.

Yeah the LTIR is STL's best hope. If not, they'd have to dig deep and move out some cap if/when Steen and Tarasenko would return, whether it's Dunn or someone like Bozak, Scandella, Perron, Schwartz...

Dunn doesn't have arbitration rights so he's not in a big leverage spot - I'd guess that he gets a 2 yr bridge in the 2.8 - 3.2m ballpark. Haven't heard any news about extension talks though.

I love the comments in these posts. Good teams that are in cap trouble will always say “if we’re trading Player A, we have to get a top 6 forward and a a 2nd in return” And completely ignore the cap/money ramifications.

If you're referring to my comment, I said if Steen stays on LTIR all year then the Blues can afford to keep Dunn or move him for a forward with a similar cap hit. Would be a cap-neutral move to add a scoring forward, not a cap-saving move.

If Steen doesn't stay on LTIR all season, then the Blues need to find the cap space, and I don't think they should do that with a Dunn trade. Move someone else if all they'd get back is a draft pick/prospect that will never be as good as Dunn. Hell, retain 1.5 on Bozak and send a 3rd rd pick with him if that's what it takes to make the room. I see no reason for the Blues to give up a good young d-man when other teams have had no issue moving their cap hits around (stastny, maatta, gudbranson, m staal, etc).

No Hall is injury prone so took a small deal to boost his numbers on a crappy team just so he can get a huge deal on a winning team. Dunn is already on a contending team. Big difference in scenarios. Also Blues have Steen on LTIR probably never coming off that’s 5.75M easily. Blues could match it.

Uhh, the Blues aren't in cap trouble. I keep waiting for some folks around here to notice.

If he signed a multi year deal then you could make that argument. Hall signing in buffalo is the best option for hall and just proves that he wants his big payday. He signs for 1 year to play with eichel and boost his stats so he can get his big contract next year with a different team. He's basically using buffalo to ensure his next contract is massive.

So a few things on that lol. So cap/money "issues" are non-existent. Alex Steen is on LTIR his injury from the Bubble hasn't gotten better so most likely retires there. that's 5.75M. If you would like to see my ACGM that would prove to you why we don't have cap ramifications. I'll gladly show you. But to be perfectly clear if you think you will rape the Blues for a really good player just because they are in cap issues. You are so wrong lol.
