Will his line be anywhere as good without ZAR at the beginning?

ZAR is overrated because of his analytics, he's the third best player from the Tanev-Blueger line from last year

McCann-Blueger-whoever is a fine third line. Tanev-Jankowski-whoever should be able to still handle the same defensive 4th line minutes

ZAR is a good player. He was a stud in the NCAA, he changed his game for the NHL, and he's excelled at it. There is nothing to not like about his game.
And the best part of it, is his contract is a great cap hit. Teams would kill for a player like him on that cap hit.

If you are the opposing team ready to eat that 3rd pairing alive with that weak bottom 6. We have a full time AHL 3RD and 3 13th skaters on that bottom 6.

Yeah but they will still likely be in that 2nd-4th in the division range. I mean this team is better than what we started with last year. Kapanen > Simon on the top line. Zucker > Hornqvist in the top 6. McCann back on wing > McCann at center and likely > Kahun at wing. Jankowski at center is at worst = McCann at center. And having Sceviour, ERod, and Lafferty as depth until ZAR gets back is pretty decent. Matheson > JJ. And with how bad Schultz kinda was last year, I can’t see Ceci being much worse lol. The only big downgrade is Murray to DeSmith.

I don't know about that. That 3rd pairing could be just as bad if not worse and Jankowski could be horrible.
All I know is JR has done an awful job. I mean people on this board put hundreds of much better moves for this team. And the cap hits were all good on those players.
He clearly learned nothing from his past dumb decisions. And as far as I'm concerned signing Ceci is damn near unforgivable. If I see one press conference about, how Ceci really isn't that bad and it's the rest of the team I'm gonna slap him.

I mean there’s risks in any signing. Any free agent could be horrible. But I think at worst, Jankowski will be at least a defensively responsible bottom 6 center. I didn’t get Ceci when TVR went for 800k. I’d have rather had TVR for 1 million to pry him from the caps than Ceci for 1.25 million. I think he should have waited to see if Vatanen would have fallen into our price range, because Ceci would have still been there after Vatanen gets taken.

Still not making the playoffs though. Even if you do you aren't winning the cup again. (Not until after a rebuild)
