Description

Eriksson has to go IMO, and Benning should pay the price to make it happen. There are multiple bad contracts on this team, but Loui's is by far the biggest anchor and it's preventing the team from getting better in free agency this year, as well as gumming things up for next season when the kids need raises. The Devil's still need roster players, so maybe there's a fit there if they like Virtanen; I'm pretty sure they like VAN's 1st rounders after they got a taste this year. Street and Tennyson are throw-ins to balance the number of team contracts.

If Hoffman is willing to do a one-year deal and crush it statistically for a season beside Petey and Miller, he could be looking at a much better payday in 2021.

I think it is an interesting idea, but the window has probably passed to dump a contract that big...(with Virtanen, who could be $3 million plus).

(Maybe if Vancouver retained some on Ericsson and offered ELC player instead of Virtanen)

You might be right, but I picked NJD because their roster is fairly short on NHL'ers at the moment and they still have tons of cap space. If there was interest in Virtanen on their side this is a good value for them.

I don't disagree at all. But they added Crawford ($3.9 million), Murray ($4.6 million) and Johnsson ($3.4 million)...nearly $12 million...and are likely making one more move for d-man. They also have RFAs Bratt, Blackwood (both around $3-4 million), Merkley to sign. Then they have to extend Palmieri ($6-7 million) and/or Gusev ($4-5 million).

I just think the window to move this much cap space is closed - not only for NJD - but for most teams.
