I don't know man, unsigned? if he signs an offer sheet for less than 1.4mil compensation is zero. If he signs for +1.4mil, its a third round pick. Not sure that there is that much demand for a 3rd pair LD right now.

Especially since Nate Schmidt brought back a Late 3rd round Pick.

If someone really wanted Dermott they would offer sheet him under 1.395M and not have to give up any draft pick compensation. I think his offer is 895,000 from Toronto. Of course Toronto can match the 1.395M offer. But being strapped they might not be able to match even that.

NSH needs goal scorers more than playmakers, and Arvidsson holds the edge in that department. Arvidsson was also one of the few Preds who showed up in the post-season. Marner wasn't as impressive.

Making this deal wipes out pretty much all of the cap space the Preds carved out by trading Bonino & Watson, and buying out Turris & Santini. Poile mentioned in yesterday's press conference that he sees the cap staying flat for the next few seasons. A lot of core players (Forsberg, Ekholm, Fabbro, Saros, Jarnkrok) will need new contracts in the next two seasons, with Rinne's $5M the only significant contract coming off the books in that period. Acquiring Marner would mean not being able to keep all of those guys, and NSH doesn't have the prospect depth to fill all those spots over the next couple years. That's even before they give up their best prospect and their next 1st here.

Hey, that's all fair to consider. After this trade they're left with approx. 7mil in cap space, but given the scenario you just presented, it may not be enough.

I don't think it's close to $7M left over. My estimate was a little under $2M, with a full 23 man roster. It depends on what Kunin signs for, but most MIN fans on here were estimating about $2.25M before the trade, so I went with that number.

Ahh yes, I meant just after this trade, not including signing anyone else.

I don't think trading Marner is the right move. Yes we need some cap flexibility with the flat cap ... But I would give our core 2 more years and then think about trading a core piece. Trading Hyman, Holl, Engvall are easier pieces to replace than Marner
