Additions since the TDL (Most notable):
Boston: Craig Smith, Charlie Coyle, Ondrej Kase
Buffalo: Taylor Hall, Eric Staal
Montreal: Tyler Toffoli, Josh Anderson, Joel Edmundson, Jake Allen
Ottawa: Evgeni Dadonov, Matt Murray
Toronto: Replacing Barrie with Brodie and signing fourth liners.
With the Lightning still being the Lightning and Florida being a bubble team are there actually some odds that Toronto may miss the playoffs? They're basically the same team away from Johnsson and Kapanen being gone for picks.

I don't know what to say. I'm trying to make sense of this. It's possibly a sign and trade in 2 years. It's pretty much buyout proof, for the Melnyk owned Sens anyway. The only rational I can come up with is Melnyk wants to boost the team value to sell after he gets the expansion payment.

It sure isn't buyout proof...it's cheap to buy him out come next off season

Nothing is buyout proof technically. The Sens aren't buying that contract out as long as Melnyk owns the team, hence my comment. After next season Dadonov is owed $11.5MM, at 2/3 that's $7.66MM, which is more than Bobby Ryan's buyout, You think Melnyk wants two of those?

Wow. Surprised at the amount of free agents going to bad teams like Detroit and Ottawa, and with Hall going to Buffalo. The flat cap probably has a lot to do with that

my guess is because those teams have the cap to actually pay them fair market value? the playoff teams are mostly cash strapped so they would have to take a big discount

It will cost them under 2M per year for the 4 years if they buy him out next off season

There is no chance that he is on the Sens for that third season when his real money is above his cap hit.

yes, for four years, added to Ryan's as well. The cap hit between them would be close to $8MM next season as well. If anything happens, it's after 2 years, and even then it's unlikely.

Solid signing. And come late transfer window (Ottawa out off the race for playoffs) , especially if Ottawa is willing to detain like 2M it might get them yet more 1st round picks. Even if they keep him around, itd way less term and money most expected.

Absolutely love this. Great playmaker and amazing term. And with all the Russians like Zaitsev, zub, Anisimov, abramov, sokolov, it's great to have another good Russian player the young Russians can lean on.

The Sens need to support their young talent with high end skill. It's still a youth movement, but expecting them to be able to handle driving the entire top six on their own is not a great plan. Dadonov can provide experience and will make the players around him better. Three years isn't super ideal, but this is a huge improvement for Ottawa, and it points to the Sens being legitimately willing to do what it takes to build a contender. Dadonov might not be around to see the team fully blossom into a legitimate cup threat, but he will go a long way towards bringing the Sens back to a level of legitimacy, and bring an end to the era of them being a joke.

LMAO.. people are messed up. Guys want money. They have to sign with teams who have cap space. Period. This flat cap is really creating league parity.

To be fair, most of the teams that have cap space are the bad ones.

Can’t believe Melnyk said yes to spending money

Don't worry he's got a COVID seating plan to get 6000 fans into the arena. NOTE: (same seating plan as last 5 yrs)

I know what you’re saying, and I’m taking it as a positive move. This is just so counter to past Ottawa Senators philosophies., lol.
