*NOTE*

If Ladd can go on LTIR (which I wholeheartedly believe can happen) then replace Duclair with Hoffman on a high 1-2 year AAV deal.

I'd take Komarov for a 2nd. I think you're short on what it would cost to dump Boychuk though.

We have Wahlstrom (too much value) and Holmstrom (Lou's first 1st round pick here - doubtful he gives him up so quick). Bellows is the guy rumored to be on the way out

I'm using Marc Staal as the reference point. That cost one 2nd. I'd argue that's about Bellows value, plus the other 2nd. I think it's pretty in line. Mayyyyyybe another low level prospect or 4th round pick. But not a ton more.

As a throw in to this? Absolutely. I honestly forgot about him. Not a deal breaker by adding him at all.

What happened to Ladd? He played in the playoffs. How can he go on LTIR?

He has three documented ACL surgeries and a lingering back problem. I don't think Lou will have much trouble making him disappear. Arthur Staple already said it's possible, and another unnamed exec said yesterday in an Athletic article that "the old Robidas Island might be popping up in New York".

All Ladd has to do is not fight the Doctor's diagnosis. His alternative is riding the buses again for another 3 years in empty AHL arenas. Risk additional injury, illness, and be away from family. He's owed about $9m in real dollars. Just stay at home with your family and collect your checks.

I agree that the Marc Staal trade is probably the new benchmark for cap dump trades like this, but rather than just doubling up the value (2x 2nd round picks or equivalent value prospects) I think teams will be asking for a 1st rounder as the base for guys like Boychuk or Eriksson.

But he played in the Islanders last game. Its not going to be as easy as it sounds. There are steps involved. Medical evaluations. Legal recourse if done to circumvent cap.

Islanders are in tough for sure. Boychuk, although he can still play, is a tough sell at 2 years at 6 AAV at his age and NTC. He's basically a 3rd pairing guy making 1st pairing money.
Leddy is still a positive asset, but they'll still need to kick in a sweetner.
Plus those RFA deals are pretty team friendly. Bazal would walk away from that for sure. Even with the flat cap the guy is gonna get paid and should be
Seems to me that GM's are on the same page with deals and signgings this offseason. Nobody outside the top dogs are getting their money and trades seem more about cap compliance then actual need, although you can have both (jets/vegas, Van/vegas)

For sure. You cant just say you are injured when youre not. Plus Ladd probably wants to play. Sitting at home when you could be playing in the NHL or even AHL seems boring

he cleared; refused to play for Bridgport and was lent to the rampage i think. Lou doesn't want this guy around, but a change of scenery would be good for him. some team should deal for him...low risk IMO

He won’t ever play in the NHL again, at least for the isles. In his interviews you can tell he wasn’t happy playing in the AHL, it definitely hurt his ego.

I think even if he can contribute in the NHL in a 4th line role, Lou will still bury him in the minors to be spiteful and save cap space - it’s Inevitable that he’ll suffer an injury that will put him on LTIR.

Staal has one year term, that's a lot easier to manage.

I keep seeing Staal brought up by other fan bases without much context. Yzerman has said multiple times in press conferences he was only looking at short term cap dumps and that he views Staal with something left in the tank. He further goes on saying he wants to keep our prospects away from this tire fire so he needs “warm bodies”. We had openings on our roster because Daley and Ericsson are going to be gone. So he was essentially 3M (owed) - 1M (replacement) = 2M or less as a cap dump for a second round. He has stressed multiple times he wants short term deals because the flexibility so I doubt he’s going to look at Boychuk and go ehh it’s only two years when as soon as the end of the SHL season were talking Hronek-Seider-Stetcher. Additionally, he probably thinks he can retain and get picks at TDL for Staal.
