I agree. The bolts are about to be screwed over (by trade of offer sheet) BAD. Expect them to be unable to match a Sergachev offer sheet for 6 mil, giving them only a first and 3rd, and then pay that first to dump Johnson or something.

Do you think boston is the kind of team looking to go out and retain salary to get some prospects?

Keep the prospects and retention. Kase for Killorn straight up. Or a pick for Killorn.

Butcher doesn't get you Sergachev, Let alone Sergachev at 8 years $52 million and Tyler Johnson first off there's absolutely noway that Tyler Johnson waives his full NTC for a bottom feeding club like the Devils.

I started with Killorn for Kase straight up! But ended up ~$1 million short on overall cap. Since Kase as 1-year, I retained there for some prospects.

They should! In this market, no team (that isn't cash poor) should leave cap space on the table. Its actually smart arb trade.

The salaries I got directly from Evolving Hockey. So not my figure.
I have no idea where Johnson would waive to (your guess is as best as mine)
The trade was for Sergachev AND Johnson. Most of Serg's value is wiped out by swallowing TJ. What's left is comparable to Butcher (I also considered Dunn, Nurse, Pettersson, Pionk, others).

How would you suggest solving this puzzle?

They're going to buy TJ out and then trade one of Killorn/Palat. I think they get it done without something like this.

The problem is Boston has 2 big holes to fill and enough cap space to fix only one. They are not in position to retain. They have to move out some dead cap as it is.

Current: $78.6 million
Sergachev: +$5.0 million
Cirelli: +$5.0 million
Cernak: +$2.0 million
-Killorn -$4.45 million
-TJ: -$2.27 million (net after buyout)
Total: $83.88 million

(and if they go any lower on Cirelli and Sergachev, they will lose them via offer-sheet)

I don't think Devs fans expect that do happen, at least I don't!
Serg has value and we should pay a fair (albeit discounted in a way) amount.
Butcher is not a Bolts type D man, yes offensive but his size and skating are just opposite of that. Smith is similar to Butcher. Reilly Walsh is a rook but more to their liking and a righty. I see one of our picks last year or so as a piece going back, maybe Bahl. I think a protected 1st (top 3 maybe) our 2nd from Isles and things like this as options. Is Palat a better for from Tampas sake on the contract coming back.

It looks like it on paper, but Grizz, Debrusk, Kuhlman going to take roughly 8m snd that’s if they can get Debrusk to take a bridge.

No, I don't this trade will happen either. I think Sergachev will sign an offer sheet, and Johnson will be dumped, and cost way more to dump than we thought he would, a second at least, maybe more. Mark my words. Something has to give, But ya, the value in that trade doesn't line up.

These trades are so difficult to value. TB fans will say that TJ should return a high pick or prospect. Others will say TB should pay to move him. In this case, this deal took that latter position. And TB has zero leverage other than buying out players.

Neither comp is great, but I'd say Smith is more similar to Sergachev than to Butcher. Butcher is more offensive, puck-mover. Smith is more two-way player. While Smith is NHL-ready, Bahl probably isn't for a year. And while doing Smith, 1st, 2nd for Sergachev would be find deal, it would mean TJ not dumped in deal.

I guarentee you TJ will not fetch postive return. You know why? No team would take him for free when the bolts put him on waivers.

I agree with you. Thats why the trade above looks the way it does. Its Sergachev (++) and Johnson (-) for Butcher (+).

The argument can be had whether Serg is (++) or (+++) or whether Butcher is (+) or (++) or whatever. But no argument about whether TJ is (+) or (-). I think your point about TJ on waviers supports that. The question is whether TJ is (-) or (--) is really the unknown here.

None are set.

But with Serg and Cirelli....if TB offers too low, they lose them to offer sheet.

The figures above are about as low-$ as one could realistically use.

Highly doubt any GM extends an offer sheet, although they definitely should.

We've seen many teams in cap trouble. They usually get it solved in the most boring way possible. No way Serg is traded for that to solve it.

99% of time, I say that about offer-sheets. They are mostly fantasy.

This time is different because TB is in more of NTC hell than Cap hell. They cannot easily move pieces around.
