While I agree Habs may look to move Armia, as he is definitely not a 4th liner. The return you offer is not that great. Both players are average.

Joel armia shouldn’t be moved. He’s making 2.6 and depending on the minutes could score 20 goals. He’s also 6’4, can hit and is good defensively

One thing that needs to be considered -- and realistically it IS a huge deal as we know in this tight market where even free agent wingers expected to get a decent raise (Smith Toffoli) and free agents in general have gotten a lot less than expected in addition to MTL's cap crunch situation -- is the fact that MTL saves 1.85mil in cap space with this proposal while still getting the Joel Armia they need on the left side, albeit a downgrade, in Sorensen.

By no means is Sorensen a throwaway. He PKs (SJ has had the #1 PK in the league for a while with him being a part of that and bringing in that experience to MTL's pretty putrid PK) and PPs both 2nd units effectively, will chip in 15 goals on the 4th line, and plays with speed but also a physical edge.

Both guys are on expiring contracts. Sorensen's 1.5mil is being HALF retained for only 750k. He's on a contract year in a tight market and will be looking to prove he's due for a raise, especially with the time off to heal and practice before the season he's getting overseas. That's excellent value. Plus you're getting a 2nd round pick player Gambrell who has a very similar playing style to Armia plus a 3rd rounder. Both those variables cover the downgrade while MTL still gets their bottom-sixer on the left side they need. This trade makes sense, dunno why it's hard to concede that.

Guess that's to be expected with Habs fans but I was really hoping you guys here on CapFriendly would find a good lesson after what happened with the Domi/Anderson swap but nOOooOooo guess not... 😉

Middleton >>>>>> DeSimone

I honestly don't see Nick ever making jump to NHL. (Cuda season ticket holder)

Fully agreed -- I just put DeSimone in the scratched area over Middleton to just give Middleton ice-time in Cuda with Nick sitting in the press-box and also to save 25k in the cap. Middleton has the tools to be a young Dillon if he continues to develop.

I'd put Carrick in that spot, but there is the chance he could be Cuda captain. Interesting decision to be made on that front for next AHL season with Mccarthy retired. Not many players on AHL deals with Cuda

What was your take on Blichfeld later on in the season? Do you think he has as good a chance as any to make the NHL team this year out of camp and be an effective RW on a 2nd line with Hertl and Meier?

LW : Drouin Tatar Lehkonen Byron >>>>> Sorensens
RW : Gallagher Anderson Toffoli Armia >> Sorensens

We don’t need Sorensens, why downgrade a player when we want to win now ?

Stop trying to explain the trade is fair, we don’t want to trade Armia. We had a logjam at Center so Domi had to be traded. Bergevin was looking for a RW power forward, how many there are in the league ? 3 ? 4 ? Yes, Domi vs Anderson doesn’t looks fair, but Bergevin got what he wanted. He don’t have to move Armia, the guys he needs to move are Byron or Weal. And you don’t see any Habs fans asking the moon for those players

He definitely needs a good play making centre to play with. He's got one hell of a shot but not always the best compete level for being a big guy, sometimes he's a beast physically other times he's just kinda floating and not super involved. Bit of a temper, seen him going after guys for whole shifts and being more focused on that than the play.

I think a line with Kane and Hertl would suit him. Hertl is a beast and Kane would cover any need for him to go fight hunting.
All depends who our 3C ends up as though, if we get a creative 3C that spot would be good for him and allow Donato to play 2LW and Meier on 1RW.

Sasha was a beast towards the pause after he got fully over his early season injuries and had a decent point streak going at the pause if I remember right (8 or 9 games I think), I could see him and Blichfeld both getting time at 3RW over the season especially if we are out of playoff picture again

Habs should keep Byron and Armia for now, and try to unload Weal and Kulak and replace them with $700,000/$900,000 a year players, Fleury or Poehling or sign UFA Gauthier to a one-year, two-way deal as 13th forward. Armia could still play top 6 if Toffoli plays LW

the one thing that stood out in your long response was when you said that he plays with "a physical edge". All last season he had 56 hits, which places him at #208 in ranking using only the forwards. That is less than one hit per game as he played 66 games. I cannot speak for all Habs fans nor for anybody else on capfriendly but I would still pass on this player.

Two things on that. 1) Hit stats are really, really subjective but 2) to your point, he has a bit of reputation for disappearing physically during the regular season but showing up physically during the playoffs.
