Needs to be done but fans and media would not accept it

Explications
Marner's contract just needs to go.

Nashville still has a window, but they need some offence from their forwards that are not named Forsberg and they have a lot of space

As an objective fan (Oilers), this would be a really good move for the Leafs. Not sure for Nashville. I truly wonder how other GM's value Marner with that contract. I see Aho and Marner as having similar value from simply a player standpoint, for example. But man, that 2.5 mil difference in cap is killer.

lmao why does his contract need to go? He scores at a 90 point pace and he just turned 23.

You could argue, at best, he is overpaid by about 2 million. A forward of his calibre should be getting $9M to $9.5M.

Rantanen got 9.25 for 6 years, and when you consider Mitch has outpaced him 2 years in a row (despite being a year younger and not getting to play with the best player in the world), plus considering the tax situation, Marner could be getting anywhere from 9.4-9.6. So that's only a million dollars overpay.

When you look at guys like Kreijci getting 7.2M, Eriksson getting 6M, Erik Johnson getting 6M Ekman Larsson 8M, Keller at 7M, etc. - Marner is literally not even that much of an over pay. Plus, each new year of his contract he improves

Marner is one of the best forwards in the history of the team, if he wins cups here, he'll go down in history has a national legend, no different than Kawhi, don't trade him to sign a 30 year old mike hoffman lmao

I also wouldn't expect nashville to give up their top prospects and 2 first rounders either lmfao

Why does it "need to be done" exactly? I don't see the absolution of it needing to be done.

What I like about this, is that you dump Marner, you still underpay Mikeheyv by a lot (and for that term!), and you're still right at the cap with no wiggle room...

As great a player as Marner is its highly unlikely the Leafs would get that much for him and adding Dermott doesn't make a difference.

I think he should be moved, the fact that he is still with the Leafs shows us that he is not.

Yes, just because of a one year deal with Hoff, I think in one year, son of Robert will be ready for the 2nd line and Hallander for the 3rd line.

I think Nasville might pay a price, as basically their whole offence not named Forsberg is not really producing. They depend on their Ds to score points
