This is obviously wishful thinking, but just thinking of some dream scenarios for us this season. So we missed out on retaining Petro, but we have to move on. We have a little bit of cap space to work with at the moment now that Tarasenko will miss the beginning of the season and Steen may live the rest of his days out on Robidas Island. Instead of giving that money to Petro, we fill another hole in our line-up: Top-6 winger. Not sure how likely this would be to happen, but according to TSN's Frank Seravalli, Hoffman would be open to a one-year deal between $5.5M and $6.5M, so that he can test the market again next Summer when money is better.
Dunn is a great player, but I think he is not quite the player we need at the moment. He's an offensive-minded LHD and I think we already have a better version of that in Krug. With the departure of Pietrangelo, I think we could use another defensive-minded RHD that would fit comfortably in the Top-4. Not sure if the needs align with FLA but I'm hearing Weegar has been made available recently.
Bozak is a solid 3rd line center that can move pretty much anywhere in the lineup when needed, but his cap hit is probably a good $1M too high. I feel like this fits a current need for the Rangers. This move is only made when Tarasenko is close to returning probably about a month or two into the season. Thomas or Schenn slots in as the 3C after this deal.
Gunnarsson is still a serviceable 7D but becomes even more expendable throughout the season. Bortuzzo adds grit which I think makes him more of a commodity as 7D. We swap him for some goaltending security as we're still unsure of Husso. I'm not too hung up on who this goaltender might be, but I chose Halak because I feel like Boston might actually have a 7D role to fill and I would love to have Halak back for one last run with us.
