rangers can't offersheet him. they don't have the cap. after they re-sign the rfa's they will be close to the limit. they would have to move out deangelo or storme to make the trade happen.

I struggle to see why Sergachev would sign that deal, even if the final year of the contract was $8M to set the floor for his next extension. I think even $6.75M is conservative for the quality of hockey he plays right now, and it seems unlikely (even in the old boys GM club) that Sergachev wouldn't have an offer sheet on his desk for $6.75M AAV or more, longer term.

$4.5M would be one of the most team-friendly deals in a long time. Maybe bump it to $5.33M AAV x 3 years, with the following structure:

Year 1: $5.0M
Year 2: $2.5M
Year 3: $8.5M (sets floor for next contract)

I could see this being interesting. Gives Serg 3 years with the core group largely intact. 3 good shots at another Cup(s) before more big changes are required.

There's no way the Wings accept that deal. They could have had Johnson for free over the weekend a 'meh' prospect isn't going to the move the needle.

NHL got rid of last year for qualifying offer on new contracts.. It’s now cap number.

McAvoy took 4.9x3 in Boston and Werenski took 5.0x3 in Columbus, both are comparables and the cap was the exact same when they signed. And I'd argue that both those players are slightly better than Sergachev. I don't think this contract is that far fetched

The contract is very good. The last year won’t up his qualifying offer though. It’s now the average each year now.
