Description
Of all the available UFAs left, Hoffman Dadonov And Granlund are the only ones worth signing for Columbus in terms of forwards. From a fit standpoint I think Granlund is both the cheapest and best fit. Feel like Dadonov is the next best fit and Of the three, Hoffman is the worst fit in terms of system and cost. I love Hoffman’s shot and power play ability but i have concerns about how he’d play in the defensive Tortorella system at 5v5. Also think he would want a longer term deal which could be problematic.

Granlund played some of his best hockey in Minnesota in a more structured game also while playing with Mikko Koivu so there is a connection there. Could see him taking a cheaper short term prove it deal after how his Nashville stint went.

Dadonov would be a solid option with his power play and goal scoring abilities, and I feel like he’s both less of a liability defensively as well as a player who could be had on a short term contract.

Which one do you guys think CBJ should pursue and do these contracts seem realistic?

For CLB? Dadonov 100% of the time. He'll be fine in a defensively structured environment, and still likely put up 20-25 goals.

I think he’d be the best fit on the top line with PLD and Bjorkstrand. Granlund could play on that line but it’d force Bjorky to the LW and I’m not sure if he’s comfortable playing LW over RW. Same thing if Atkinson is the other wing on a PLD-Dadonov line

Hoffman would be fun offensively for you guys, but Dadonov just seems like the smart move. Think you're right-Dadonov-PLD-Bjorky or Dadonov-PLD-Atkinson would both be very solid 2-was lines that play the style that you guys need.

Agree that #1 choice would be Dadanov. He is older at 31, but if the right deal lands him, maybe $6M x 3 or 4, then yes.

Granlund is a 2nd choice, Hoffman (to me) is 3rd.
I get the sense Jarmo is done though (with UFA). I think Hall was his primary target.
He might still be working a trade though.

Dadonov has a good history on the power play too so he’s be a solid addition. Hopefully he’s open to a 1 or 2 year deal though

Like I replied to Lenny, i think a short term deal is the way to go. I don’t think any of those 3 will get the long term offers they thought they would especially having waited this long. The market just really can’t offer them much at this point. I feel like Dadonov could be had for less than 6 million for like 1-2 years which would be ideal for CBJ

I go (1) Granlund; (2) Dadonov; (3) Hoffman.

I think Granlund would be a great fit, and the cheapest - a guy looking for a bounce back year. Plus, already having Koivu on the team as well can maybe help persuade him.

I'd dig Dadonov, but really only for three years or less. And I worry some team is going to throw five or six at him.

Hoffman is the best pure offensive force, but I know he has some big defensive gaps. Considering we already took on Domi, who has defensive questions himself, I'd be a bit uncomfortale compounding defensive liabilities. I really only see CBJ signing him if they can get him on a bargain - something even less than what he is asking for, which is purportedly a one year deal for around $5.5MM to $6.5MM.

I agree with pretty much everything here. I’d maybe swap Dadonov and Granlund as my 1/2 but I’d have Hoffman as my #3 for sure. As great of a pure goal scorer as Hoff is I have serious questions about how he fits into our teams system at 5v5 now. On a one year deal I’m totally fine with Hoffman but I think any sort of commitment of more than 2 years of Hoffman is very risky for us.

One of my few concerns about Granlund would be that he’s played RW most of his career and I’m not sure how comfortable he’d be either moving to LW or one of our existing RWs moving over there. I do think Granlunds skill works better in a more structured team like a Columbus or Minnesota and it obviously helps to have his longtime linemate and friend in Koivu on the team.

Overall i think Dadonov is the best all around fit. He’s not a total defensive liability, he can play LW, he’s a proven 25+ goal scorer and an effective guy on the power play too. I’d love a Dadonov-Dubois-Bjorkstrand line. And i think he’s likely to sign a short term 1-2 year deal as well. I don’t think any teams are willing to throw around longer term than 3 years unless the player is taking a massive pay cut tbh.

Welp, that's one off the board. I'm still hoping for Granlund... please not Hoffman.
