Wow I can see that haters here still have a strong presence. In our french forum pretty much everyone is happy and see the glass half full. Haters died in our forum you guys should do the same here....

Don’t pay any attention to these clowns, they’re either super dense or trolling/hating.

Montreal is officially a 1-Year all or nothing team.

All these guys need contracts before next year:

1. Kotkaniemi
2. Gallagher
3. Danault
4. Tatar
5. Armia
6. Lehkonen
7. Hudon
8. Mete
9. Backup

While these guys are hoarding all the money:

$10,500,000 = Price
- $8,000,000 = Weber
- $6,200,000 = Petry
- $5,500,000 = Drouin
- $5,500,000 = Anderson
- $4,200,000 = Toffoli
- $3,500,000 = Edmundson
- $3,500,000 = Chiarot
- $3,500,000 = Byron
- $2,000,000 = Kulak
- $2,000,000 = Alzner (BO)

So that's $54,500,000 committed to 10 players.
With only $27,000,000 left for the other 14.
With 4 of their 5 best forwards unsigned.

There will be a mass exodus next year.

Kotkaniemi: bridge deal
Gallagher: some sort of deal
Danault: dealt somewhere
Tatar: Either dealt somewhere or let walk
Armia: gone unless he’s takes under 2mil
Lehkonen: Probably taken by Kraken
Hudon: who actually f ing cares
Mete: we will see how he does
Backup: Primeau on ELC

All solved. Questions?

OK I'll go with it.

Kotkaniemi: bridge deal ($5,000,000)?
Gallagher: some sort of deal ($7,000,000)?
Danault: dealt somewhere (last years best overall center gone)
Tatar: Either dealt somewhere or let walk (last years top scorer gone)
Armia: gone unless he’s takes under 2mil (last years best 3rd liner gone)
Lehkonen: Probably taken by Kraken (solid middle 6 winger gone)
Hudon: who actually f ing cares (fair enough)
Mete: we will see how he does ($2,000,000)?
Backup: Primeau on ELC ($800,000)?

Total = $15,000,000 spent on 4 players.

----------------------------------

** You now have $12,000,000 in cap-space left and 10 more players needed for a 23 man roster ($1,200,000 per player).
** Your center ice is now made up of = Kotkaniemi - Suzuki - Poehling (non of which are proven top-6 centers at this point).
** You're missing your top scorers from the last 2 years (Domi + Tatar) and your top 2-way forwards from the last 2 years (Danault + Armia)
** Price + Weber + Petry will all be 1 year deeper into their mid to late 30's .
** The 10 new guys will have to average close to league minimum salaries.

None of the players that need to be resigned is or will be a superstars maybe exept KK but he's going to sign a transition one probably. What does that mean? Gallagher will most likely be the highest paid among these at around 6m. If you look closely at it we can afford them all pretty much. Montreal has no superstars but a lot of good players. We're not Buffalo or crazy Toronto team with 10+m players period.

No you can't.

See my post right above this.

Fair enough. You make some good points

I see Kotkaniemi taking 3,500,000 on a two year bridge, RFA expiration. That frees up 2,000,000
Gally takes 6,500,000 for 5 years makes the most sense to me. Pay cut for the Habs. Frees up 500,000 in cap
It actually depends. Danault said that he didn't want to be a 3C, so IMO the best option is to have him as 1C for 1/2 more years to allow KK and Suzuki to develop there, then deal him.
Toffoli replaces him. With KK and Suzuki blossoming, 30 goals is a realistic possibility
I like how Evans is developing. Hopefully he can replace Armia
Losing Lehky hurts me a lot. Agree with you there
2.000,000 seems fine. Maybe for 3 years
800,000 is right

So now there is 14,500,000 in cap space
Caufield should come next year with his 925,000 ELC
Juulsen with his new 700,00 contract should make the top six
Poehling, we will see. Hopefully 3C potential
Guhle will take a while
Romanov will come with 925,000
Ylonen might make the team next two years

Not nearly as bad as you have made it out to look but still a cause for concern

Kotkaniemi doesn't get a 5 million dollar bridge deal unless he becomes an Elite center, which then there is no need for Danault.

Gallagher at 7 Million is too much. He will likely get 5.5-6 and if not he's gone. Mete doesn't get 2 million and there's rumours he's being shopped now so. Do the math and it's not hard to see Montreal can do it with Tatar walking

OK I'll go with it again and do the math.

You save $1,500,000 on Kotkaniemi if he signs for $3,500,000.
You save $1,500,000 on Gallagher if he signs for $5,500,000.
You save $1,000,000 on Mete if he signs for $1,000,000.

The team is identical - But now you have $16,000,000 in cap-space with 10 more players needed for a 23 man roster ($1,600,000 per player).

Ten players averaging $1,600,000 million can't be expected to be a very good on average (Ex - If you sign 2 guys at $4,000,000 the rest have to be mins / ELC's).

And those 10 incoming players will be the ones replacing Danault + Tatar + Armia + Lehkonen + Allen.

Even high end prospects will be hard pressed to replace a 70 point guy + experienced 2 way players.

It will be tough to not take a step back.

It's more than plausible that we trade Byron and Kulak, just for ****s and giggle's, here's the team if we don't trade Byron or Kulak. We are not cap strapped. Give it up

I’m interested in seeing where he stacks up against the other UFAs in the cap era in terms of value for his contract in the first year. The only one who was more valuable for his money that I can think of off the top of my head is Panarin (by Chicago).

How are people calling this a good contract? He has topped 50 points once and that was 5 years ago. His analytics are okay, but with that production he's a 3rd line guy.

I think he's a good player and I'd like to have him. But he's not 4x4,25 good.

When he was a point per game player in Vancouver
