Description
Thank God! The Leafs actually nabbed Bogosian. It helps the defensive pairs a lot! Though I believe Kerfoot is going to be the one on the block next and a trade to Florida for Noel Acciari and Mason Marchment would work wonders.
Acciari is a former Bruin who plays a hard hitting style with a 5"10' frame and is 203lbs. Never shys away from puck battles and is decent at faceoffs and playmaking embodies the style the Leafs would like to acheive going into this season. Mason Marchment was another player that the Leafs should'nt have ditched in a trade. His 6'4" 220lb frame would be perfect to play on the 4th line with Engvall and Spezza. Marchment literally hits anything that moves but has some skill to back up his game.

Great description of Acciari and Marchment. Makes you wonder why Florida would trade them for a more expensive 3 rd line center...

Florida does this because they lost a 2nd line center in Trochek to trade last year and their center depth isn't the greatest for value sake they make the trade due to their extra 10 million of cap space I believe they only add an extra 1,887,000 million to their cap if they make this trade. Leafs need toughness alongside Skill with Acciari and Marchment while Florida needs a potential 40 to 50 pt center in Kerfoot who can also play on the wing as well. Both teams win! also the CRTC approves of the trade according to the mock trade generator. Maybe Florida adds a pick in there as well? Idk for believability sake it makes sense and it also provides the cap room to resign Mikhayev and Dermott as well

Not saying its a perfect plan but they have Centers like Barkov, Hinostroza, Wennberg, Verhaeghe, that doesn't sound like the best center core to me even if you make Huberdeau as a 2nd line center. Getting Kerfoot allows Florida some creativity like I said Kerfoot can play left wing as well as play center so I wouldn't necessarily call it a downgrade for Florida. Acciari only had 27 points last year on Florida in 66 games. Kerfoot had 28 Points in 65 games. Stats stay primarily the same for both only one plays a different style than the other. Marchment in the deal is the only stretch but if they add a Rosen or other defenceman in the deal which the Leafs have an abundance of in the minors they can regain Marchment for the fourth line.

honestly just send kerfoot for a pick or something if necessary

Barkov, Wennberg or Kerfoot at 2c or 3c, Acciari at 4c and there you go

Only problem with moving kerfoot is I see him rebounding next season. Plus his defense both 5 vs 5 and on the PK when given the chance is just to risky giving up

you would be lucky to give kerfoot away to a team for free in this market.
I'm not sure what alternate reality you guys are living in.

But that's the point. Giving away Kerfoot for free is a huge loss for the Leafs. Kerfoot has value as a multi-positional player who can fetch you 40 - 50 points and the market isn't "free" teams with cap like the Panthers, Devils, Sens, etc. Not trading away Kerfoot now makes the Mikhayev/Dermott deals impossible to negotiate because of the limited space and even if we did trade away Kerfoot for picks and prospects? Who replaces him at third line centre? Engvall? Spezza? no that makes the team significantly worse and then if thats the case who replaces the 4th line centre role?

agreed but that's why you can command a decent return for him from teams interested. asking for a Marchment back and a 3rd rounder may do the trick and then maybe having Engvall replace Kerfoot on the 3rd line center while the Leafs sign Joe Thornton for a year to fill in the 4th line centre roll which is a better idea maybe it would make the lines

Hyman Matthews Nylander
Robertson Tavares Marner
Mikhayev Engvall Simmonds
Marchment Thornton Spezza
or even look into depth guys currently not in the league rn like Devante Smith-Pelly (KHL and another Scarbourgh Ont boy) it could go that way as well

and i'm sure giving away 2 defense men capable of playing in the NHL was a loss for CBJ.
But it is what it is.

I guess so but what matters is that the Leafs shed cap but gain the pieces required to remain competitive while forging a new, winning, identity in the process

winning identity doesn't happen on the 4th line and on the bench.

Your first two lines should be playing over 40 minutes a game. If they can't change, nothing changes.

Grit isn't something that's on the 4th line. It has to be on every line. Players willing to do what it takes, lay a hit, battle for that puck in the corner, shove the other guy around.
Nothing has changed on this team.
