Value is okay. Fit is there, now that WSH signed TVR who is amost Jensen, but cheaper, and lost Boyd who was almost Beagle but cheaper. Puts the Caps over the cap, though. Motte for Panik balances. Value for WSH is mostly the gain in cap space. Other Caps fans keep posting Jensen for Virtanen, and as usual, as with any offer, Vancouver fans are evenly divided.

added: Also, mine balances age. The Caps give guys who are 29 and 30. Average is 29.5. They get back guys who are 25 and 34. Average is 29.5. Since Beagle is 34 and was injured for a big chunk of last season, a little retention gets it done.

Cap difference between Beagle and Jensen is 500k. VAN is not adding any cap based on their latest moves, they've let pretty much everyone walk...

Bingo.
Internal cap rumours are probably true. Aquilini is happy to have these cap hits with lowered salary.

That's really helpful. Oshie for Myers could help Vancouver with that.

Myers earns $5M salary this year: https://www.capfriendly.com/players/tyler-myers

Oshie's salary this year will hit a low of just $2.5 million. https://www.capfriendly.com/players/tj-oshie

The trouble is that Oshie was on pace for 31g and 58p this year, and Myers.... wasn't. What would balance that? Or is there a different way to create salary room for Van while helping WSH contend under the cap?

He is. I think the Caps could still find another good UFA or two if they can open some cap space, and I thought Vancouver, probably not thinking all-in this year, might not miss a 34 year old faceoff and PK specialist. But it sounds like I got the money wrong. I think Panik and Motte are both underrated wings, and their age difference is offset by the age difference between Jensen and Beagle, but the Caps need cap space and Vancouver prefer's holding Beagle's retirement deal just now. Maybe an idea for the deadline, but that doesn't open cap space for WSH to chase UFAs.

Why didn't Washington sign Boyd?
His numbers look pretty good for a 4th line player.

WHY!!!!! smile

I think his points/60 actually look pretty good for a 1st line player and maybe he wanted a better opportunity. They don't call them "free agents" for nothing.

No team needs Myers. He's overpaid by a lot. The fact this guy makes as much as Jeff Petry makes me chuckle. Myers couldn't stay out of the box all post season. Multiple penalties per game, bleeds chances, 0 points in his last 16 playoff games.

Rumours that the Nucks want to rebuild the defence from the ground up! Just a mess.

Canucks would do that all day. Then feed Oshie a few miles down the I-5 to the Kraken

The whole temperature in Vancouver is when does the Kraken begin play?!
JB showed absolutely no foresight all week with this OEL circus.
Funny enough most Canucks fans are now on the fire JB bandwagon because of Stecher. A third pair D. The two father figures leaving town made sense on day 1 on free agency, they wanted too much term.
The fact Benning clearly overplayed his hand with the Barrie negotiations on day 2 by letting the local kid Stecher walk for nothing when he could have been signed cheap! A right shot D, no less

Awful mess by Benning

Yeah. The trade I keep seeing on the Caps side that makes sense is Jensen (RHD, more of a stay at home guy, but basically another Beagle/Sutter on PK), for RFA rights to Virtanen. I was looking for alternatives because people keep shooting it down, but I looked at their profiles, and it was Penguins fans shooting it down. I think for WSH and VAN, Nick Jensen for Virtanen is a win-win, because it gives Vancouver the 2RD they need in case Woo isn't ready for top-four minutes, and it either gives WSH a good wing, if they can afford Virtanen, or else cap space to sign a UFA forward, if they can't.

I have no idea what would sweeten Oshie for Myers. My first thought is Lucas Johansen for Jett Woo, but as much injury trouble as Johansen has had in the AHL, he's not guaranteed to be the star he was in junior, anymore, so that's a rough offer.

Haha. You can tell immediately whom to take seriously by their allegiances. Believe me, Leafs, Flames and Oilers fans immediately have my spider sense go off when I see these "constructive" replies, what do you know its always those fan bases that shoot down trades no matter the offer.

I can see the Canucks walking away from the Virtanen's arbitration offer so you may not have to wait long as its supposed to be around 3 million per year

Well, the Caps still wouldn't be able to offer him 2.5 unless the Nucks want Jensen. smile

I don't believe the Canucks are allowed to walk away from an arbitration amount under $4.XX (can't remember the exact number). JV's potential arbitration number is potentially concerning to the team as his stats are more impressive than his performance. You can forget TJ Oshie coming in exchange for Myers, that won't help either team much. Jensen would be interesting, but it would take more than Motte, unless the Capitals were looking to free some cap space for someone.

Of all teams that might take Beagle, it's Washington...although retained salary might need to broach the 50% max.

So far I'm not overly upset that Benning has chosen to pass on handing out long term big contracts. Vancouver needs to get itself through 21-22 before it can truly compete for a Cup. Don't wreck a realistic chance at the Cup for short term gain.

Thanks. Then the Caps can't afford to trade for Virtanen. Picking up Motte for depth and opening up a million in cap space could help them get to 23 guys after a quick UFA binge. Probably no need to balance the value, if decent UFAs are still on the board.

Give the tight salary cap situation in Washington, a more realistic trade might be Dimitri Orlov for Jake Virtanen (plus maybe a 3rd rounder, and Washington could throw in Brett Leason). After signing Schultz from Pittsburg and TVR, Washington has a glut of RD. Leason could be a late bloomer at RW for Vancouver just as he was in junior hockey.

I always think Orlov is going to retire as a Capital. Also, he's actually a left shot, even though he finished last season on the right when Carlson missed a couple games. But I could see WSH adding Leason to Jensen for Virtanen if the cap worked. If it means they also have to give away Panik, elsewhere, the value's not as awesome. So maybe something more like Jensen, Panik, Leason for Virtanen and Motte? I don't know. Really tough to guess trade value without knowing cap hit, this "summer."
