Well mostly because there's no reason to pay for Kerfoot when we can get someone like him through free agency if we wanted to.

Let me put it another way: presumably, Weegar is the equivalent of Jake Muzzin --- less experience, but younger and cheaper. Would you trade Jake Muzzin for that trash? When he WAS traded, it was for a first, a forward prospect rated much more highly than defenseman Duzsak and a guy off the Reserve List who is rated equal to Duzsak if not better. Doesn't that give you at least some indication that Weegar's proper price is a 2021 first plus?

Muzzin was a UFA; Weegar is a RFA, so he also has at least one year left. Why does that make his value less?
