Apparently NJ and Ottawa are interested in boychuk (the fourth period trade list) , but they probably want a lot. Leo komarov also appeared on that list today... something is up, I think.

If it means signing Hall, I’d be willing to meet a pretty exorbitant price.

I personally wouldn’t want to sign hall, but he is still elite so I would be ok with it. I don’t care if Hoffman signs for 5 mill x 4, he sucks. I want no part of him.

I’d be ok with hall or Dadonov, depending on the term

Precisely what I’m thinking. Isles would’ve done something, anything by now if they weren’t waiting for a ball to drop, you’d have to think

You're joking right? Did we not watch the same Florida series? Hoffman was constantly going to the net, fighting hard for the puck along the boards, dropping hits and playing a pretty damn good 200 foot game. He's exactly what the Islanders need on RW because Eberle isn't getting the job done. Seriously who misses the net entirely on a breakaway?

Hoffman is a powerplay specialist - he hurts his team offensively at even strength and he is one of the worst defensive players in the league who doesn’t care about playing defense. It’s well known he’s had friction with coaches because he just likes to free wheel it and he’s a floater in the D zone. I don’t care what anyone’s eye test say, there’s a reason why his defensive metrics have been sh*t for his entire career.

Eberle lol - thank god eberle has a NTC because even thought he was snake bitten in the playoffs , he was still extremely effective. Sure he was frustrating at times but the isles are a better team when when he’s on the ice

They're a better team on the ice because he's all they got. He'd be more affective if he was on the 2nd line where he belongs. Instead of on the 1st where the team is actually counting on him to score. You can rely on metrics all you want. Metrics won't win championships on paper Toronto is listed as one of the best teams in the league almost every season. How close have metrics brought them to the cup. Hoffman would be a perfect fit playing along side Barzal because he knows where the net is.

With that said I don't think Lou's going for Hall or Hoffman. If he was at all interested he would have already cleared the cap space to sign them by now. My guess is our RFA's are being difficult in their negotiations and wanting more than the team can afford to pay.

Toronto has been great offensively, it’s the defense and goaltending that have let them down. Every team that goes far in the playoffs has some of the best analytics dept in the league. Colorado, Boston, TB, and Carolina are 4 teams that let their analytics department dictate what moves they make.

There is less than a 1% chance trotz would let Hoffman play with barzal, and that was pretty much confirmed by staple who said that because Hoffman is so bad defensively he would have to play on the 3rd line with pageau. Makes no sense to pay 6 mill for a 31 year old to play on the 3rd line.

It’s been rumored that Lou checked in on hall and Dadonov, so I think he’s interested. It depends if he can shed a few bad contracts soon, which will be tough.

I don’t think it’s the negotiations are a problem right now - I believe lou is focused on shedding bad contracts and then focusing on the RFAs. Toews and pulock field for arbitration, which is good because it means they want to sign and they can’t sign an offersheet now. Both will get done before arbitration IMO, ho-sang will be the only one to have. A hearing.

Hoffman on the third line?...lol..no dude Staples must be smoking mary jane and so far he's been wrong about pretty much every prediction he's made so far. So until he actually gets something right he's a pretty unreliable source and needs to just stop guessing and stick to writing the facts.

Yes I read those same rumors about Hall and Dadonov..."rumors" is the key word. Just like the rumor Varley was on his way out. Nobody wants our bad contracts which is why he hasn't moved them yet. If you were the GM of another team would you want them?

It’s a logical take. Hoffman is one of the worst defensive forwards in the NHL - He hasn’t shown once in his career that he can play a 200 ft game - it’s why his QOC (quality of competition) has been low for the past 5 years because his coaches don’t trust him. Trotz would put komarov on barzal’s line before even thinking about putting Hoffman there

The thing with Lou is he’s trying to trade boychuk right now and teams want a 1st rd pick + for him. He’s taken calls on Leddy but he seems more focused on trading the worst contracts, which might not be feasible. He’ll have to trade Leddy with retained salary for a late pick and maybe even trade cizikas.

It was Andrew gross who reported about varlamov - who cares what he says. The only three twitter accounts that are worth following that are right on most things they put out: the fourth period, NHL rumors daily, and incarcerated bob

No you only think Hoffman is a third line winger because you're an Eberle fan and can't see how bad of a first line winger he actually is. If he's as bad defensively as you say the third line is the worst place to put him. Those guys need to play defense and score the occasional goal here and there. Why we're arguing about this I don't know they won't get him or Hall anyways.

There's a few contracts he could move if he wanted to clear cap space. Boychuk and Ladd would be a dream but he could also move Leddy, Cizikas, Bailey and Clutterbuck. None of these guys would cost the Islanders a first.

Gross, Staples who cares who's doing the writing they're all the same. Just paid fan boys who are guessing at things just like we are now. Sometimes they get it right most of the time though they're completely wrong. The only time I believe any of them are 100% accurate is when it's already happened and it becomes fact.

I look at things objectively. Eberle was not good during the 18-19 season as he was adapting to trotz system. He was the isles best play driver this year, better than barzal. He’s a high end 2nd liner, low end 1st liner. That is a fact. Just because he had trouble finishing during the playoffs doesn’t take away from that.

    https://twitter.com/HBAnalytica/status/1274074741847011328?s=20

I honestly don’t know what I would label Hoffman at even strength. He holds his team back - the best thing for Hoffman would be to keep him on the bench and only use him for PP lol. He’s that bad.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone goes to LTIR and he sheds enough salary to sign someone.

Staple/gross don’t know sh*t but like i said there are a few rumor sites that are correct over 90% of the time

Maybe I'm being unreasonably optimistic, but my only explanation for Lou doing nothing to shed cap is because he's already worked out how to get Ladd and/or Boychuk to LTIR. Especially since a lot of teams have been shedding bad contracts without giving up the farm. If he's really sure about being able to use the LTIR, why would he lose assets to make cap space?

I honestly don’t know what I would label Hoffman at even strength. He holds his team back - the best thing for Hoffman would be to keep him on the bench and only use him for PP lol. He’s that bad.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone goes to LTIR and he sheds enough salary to sign someone.

Staple/gross don’t know sh*t but like i said there are a few rumor sites that are correct over 90% of the time

Eberle as trouble finishing all the time not just the playoffs that's the entire problem with him on the first line. Taken from the twitter page you linked me.

Since getting shipped off from Edmonton, Eberle has come into his own as a dynamic, offense-only forward. He's useful on the powerplay too, and is a great player as far as second-liners go

It's like I've been saying he's a second line winger at best and it's kind of sad that on the Islanders he's considered our best winger, I still think you're wrong about Hoffman and that he would make a better 1st line winger than Eberle does, but I'll agree to disagree with you. It's a stretch that we'll get him anyways so it's pointless to argue it.

Who are they going to put on LTIR? Both Boychuk and Ladd played in the playoffs. Unless Lou pulls a Tonya Harding and knee caps one of them they can't be put on the LTIR.

I also wouldn't call those so much as right as I would lucky. I mean I can make a dozen guesses about what Lou's up to and one or two of them might be right (hell with a little luck they all might be) but it doesn't make mean I know all...lol...it's all guesses, speculation and their own opinion.

Anyways I hope you have a good day bud. smile

I don’t know what you’re referring to where it says eberle has trouble finishing all the time. He was in the 76th percentile for goals per 60 minutes this season , obviously that’s well above average. If you saw his market value on the twitter account, it’s 7.5 mill which means he’s providing excess value on his contract. 2nd liner at best is implying he’s a fringe 2nd liner. He’s a high end 2nd liner , low end 1st liner. Beauvillier was actually our best winger this season, he provided top line value.

If they’re going to sign anyon (unlikely) , hall + Dadonov are better fits because they can do more than just shoot a puck. Both players are elite at 5v5 and the PP

I dont know who he would put on LTIR, it’s just a gut feeling.

I wouldn’t call it guessing. The NHL rumors daily guy is obviously well connected and reports things weeks/months before they happen. It’s definitely not luck lol . A lot of rumor accounts guess and throw sh*t at the wall to see what sticks, he’s not one of them. If you go and look through his feed, he breaks things before Friedman, dreger ETC.

    I hope you’re right
