Ottawa isn’t paying a 3rd for a worse pick, a KHL player that isn’t likely to return to the NHL, and a guy they could have had for free when every team passed on him when he was put on waivers.

Baertschi legit got one year left on his deal. Not worth trading a pick to clear his cap. Rather trade ericksen or sutter or myers

We would have to give the 3rd with them for the 6th,

In the trade above, for Ottawa it says "out" 3rd round pick.

The KHL player is in name only,

"Nikita Tryamkin, the former Vancouver Canucks defenceman who had made a lot of noise about wanting to return to the NHL over the past year, has re-signed in the KHL.
The giant blueliner re-signed with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg on Thursday, ending speculation for another year that he’s going to return to either the Canucks or the NHL."

Baertschi has no trade value. If Van gives the 3rd, that's different.

I misread your post, I thought you meant I misread the trade, my apologies.

Yes, I agree with your counter proposal.

Ottawa no longer has need of help to reach the salary floor so not going to pay for Canuck garbage. Not that they would have taken this deal even if they needed to reach the floor. Vancouver has to pay people for taking their garbage contracts. Failure to do so has already cost Markstrom and other opportunities.

A lot of what you are all saying makes sense. The only thing I am not sure of is someone said Ottawa doesn't need help getting to the cap floor. Is that correct? Yes Baertshi has no real trade value and yes it would be ideal to shed Erickson but the Canucks need help on D and every dollar could help. Is the consensus that Tryamkin has little value?

Matt Murray's $6,25MM contract bumped the cap up quite a bit, plus add in the arbitration cases of;
Chris Tierney $2.975 QO, in arbitration, should get around $3.5MM
Connor Brown $1.6MM QO, in arbitration, should get around $2.75MM

Then add in the
Gaborik/Phaneuf/Ryan cap hit of $9.8125MM

The cap hit looks low now only because the team has six RFA forwards that they extended QO to, and need to sign their contracts, which includes Tierney and Brown mentioned above.

I have them at 20 of the max 23 players, and a cap of $61,862,499, the floor is $60.2MM.

All players are either signed, are an RFA with a QO, or Ottawa has their rights (Stutzle)

And now we add in Dadanov. Duclair probably no longer on the Sens radar.
