Description
Seems to me that the Canucks could've definitely matched or even slightly beaten the deals that Barrie and Stecher just signed. They're both great deals for those two.

Apparently he offered 6M to Barrie but Barrie chose Edmonton.

Stetcher... I agree they should have matched that.

Barrie, I'm sure was sold on being the PP Qb in Oil Country. He wouldn't have had the same opportunity in Vancouver. This means Barrie can rebuild his reputation while scoring a ton on the NHL's best PP. Hit the market for a better deal

Disagree with your description, Benning is saving that cap space to sign several more bottom 6 forwards to 3/4 year deals at the 3/4 million dollar mark

Stecher deal is the perplexing one. Even, if you dont value him much. I think he's a 3rd pair. But @ 1.7m, you match!! Thats asset management 101

Barrie does what Hughes does but way worse. You've got no use for Barrie.

I get wanting the opportunity to run the top PP in EDM, that's a great position. But that's also a lot of money to leave on the table from your hometown team who could do some playoff damage.

Its tough not to be emotional about it. When you step back in a few hours, you will be over it!

That's great value for Stecher. Ideally he's 3rd pair, but he's shown he can step up when injuries strike.

Ouch. I still have hope. There's so many good players available and less chairs by the hour

Hoffman, Dadonov, Hall.

One of the these guys is gonna end up settling on a year deal at half the cash if they dont hurry, money is running out around the league

Already over it. I didn't really want Barrie in VAN anyway because of the lack of fit, but that's still a good value signing for EDM.

Well if he ends up putting up a bunch of points on the Oilers’ first PP unit, he could easily make up any money he left on the table next summer. Plus the cap situation might be looking better, and he’s able to get more money when the escrow is lower.

That was always the tea leaves around the league. IT made too much sense. It would come down to Barrie's ego if he could settle for less on a year deal. Bravo to him. He played the long game.

That Anderson contract what people dont think about. 5.5 million per year is a lot of pressure. He could absolutely destroy his reputation and not have a job in the league by 30 years of age as buyout could be possible with less money owed at tail end of contract. It's a lot of money you don't turn it down. I'm just sayin'

The situation is bad but Benning did it to himself

He signed a bunch of 4th liners for way to much money resulting in Markstrom, Stetcher, Tanev, and soon Toffoli to be gone

Heck he offered 6mill to barrie who rejected to take less in Edmonton in a show me deal to get more money

This has taught the league something, DONT OVERPAY 4TH LINERS

I will say though the Holtby signing eases the blow of Markstrom going so I will give him that.

I believe it plays into Barrie turning down Vans offer of a Rumoured 6$ x 4-6 yrs
