I think this could be a fine contract he is a fine top 4 dman and at that price I think it is a fair deal. However now the leafs will have to make some moves.
i'd rather them go on about right handed defenseman for a while longer. if they'd gotten a rhd, suddenly it wouldn't have mattered anymore.
I’m sure it would’ve continued though. Toronto media (and Montreal media for that matter) always finds something to nitpick or complain about. I remember in 2018-19 the habs media was constantly complaining about the 4th line for a good chunk of the season.
The contract imo is fine, but isn't this just making it even harder for Toronto to get cap compliant? Therez gotta be some money moving out...Nylander?
WOW! No Petro??? This changes the whole landscape now. Is Petro going to Columbus? Vegas? Colorado? Florida?
Vegas, florida is cutting costs and the signings show they are going budget but good, Columbus no cause how do you have him ahead of jones and werenski, Colorado needs cap in 2 years.
How is this NOT a win for Toronto? They got a RHD man who gets 35-40 plus points a season. Doesn't miss many games at all and is 30 years old and they gave him a slight increase from his prior contract salary at only 5 million per for 4 years which is the PRIME timeframe for the Maple Leafs to make a run at the Cup which they haven't won since 1967. In addition, he doesn't replace Morgan Reilly on the top pairing and now he can be the right hand man (literally) for Miiko Lehtonen who they recently signed from the KHL. And they have VERY promising Young Ready to play Left and Right D man who are cheap for the 3rd pairing. I'd say this is a very good signing by the Maple Leafs and little man Dubas.
Ok so is he worth this kind of money kind of, does Toronto have cap space no, does this fill a need yes. Then it’s a I have no idea this could be great, this could be horrible to me it’s a neutral
Are the leafs a better team today than they were yesterday? I have to say yes. But, I still don't see them as Cup contenders. And they still have cap trouble.
Vegas will need to trade Fleury if they wanna sign Pietrangelo. I don't see any other way of making it happen. And that still might not be enough cap space to sign him.
