I think that’s a pretty decent proposal for both teams. Tierney is a safe bet for the pens and Murray could be very useful for the sens if he even slightly rebounds

As an Oilers fan who has no dog in this fight, I think this would be smart for both teams. Ottawa would have a goalie that, if he brings what he has shown before, could really accelerate their rebuild. And Pit gets a great 3C to be a legitimate balanced contender again if the team stays healthy.

Tierney won't wow you or hurt you. Good 3C and 2C in a pinch. Problem is... Ottawa can't throw the kids to the wolves just yet. I'd consider moving Tierney, but not until the deadline. The only NHL ready centre in Ottawa right now that can handle the grind (but not a full season) is Anisimov and when was the last time Anisimov was #1 centre? That being said... maybe something works here... but maybe for one of the 2nd's +?

Doesn't preclude them from adding a center in free agency or from a team looking to shed cap

Also get the sense they want to see what they have in Brown and Norris

Don't need to go after a Centre in FA when we have the rights to one in Tierney. Also, how many FA centers are there that match Tierney's production? Koivu? How many are willing to sign in Ottawa?

Brown and Norris may make the team out of camp but, again, need a guy there to right the ship when the going gets tough.

Soderberg would be a nice short term fit

If Tierney isn't part of the long term plan I think he makes sense to move on from

Murray doesn't fit the long term plans either. There isn't a chance that he gets a long term deal after his injuries despite his repertoire.

He's younger than any other goalie available, he very much could be part of the long term if Ottawa wanted him to be

By the time this year's picks hit the NHL he still wouldn't even be 30, he'd still be in his prime as they're ready to start competing

But yes he's in line for a shorter term deal, doesn't mean Ottawa couldn't sign him to an extension later on
