I know this is hard for some Leafs fans, but here are some things you have to understand before you propose trades with Carolina:
1. The Carolina Hurricanes are in a window of about 4-5 years to compete for a Stanley Cup. They have a core of young talent on mostly affordable contracts, including Aho, Teravainen, Slavin, Pesce, Svech, and Necas.
2. They also have a lot of promising young players in their system, including Bean, Suzuki, Bokk, Rees, etc.
3. They aren't trading those core NHL players for draft picks, prospects, or downgrades. See #1 and #2.
4. Goaltending was never really the problem with Hurricanes last 2 seasons. They aren't desperate to make a change. Anderson for 1 year isn't really that valuable given Canes can stick with current tandem.
5. Canes blueline is deep, but has issues. They gave up some of highest rates of high danger chances in NHL. Pesce and Slavin are two best defenders.
6. Canes have cap limitations, especially with big new contracts on the horizon for Svech and Hamilton after this season. That adds to how the Canes value players like Pesce, who is on an incredible contract.
If you consider that Leafs have a forward strength and want a better blue line, while Canes have blue line strength but want better top 6 scoring... that's where the trade talk should happen.
