Most are saying Hall at 8M.. I doubt 5M gets him back to square 1 where he was discarded like trash

too many players taking discounts on their contracts.

Hall isn't signing a 1 year $5M deal... Debrusk is more in the 3.5-4 range on a 2y and Sergachev is probably 500k-1M more on a 2y term.

Koivu could be around $1M though, so that should free up some room.

Chiarelli and McLellan are gone, so the people he hated are gone. He played excellently with Leon when he wasn't Leon. A 1 yr lower deal to rack up points and perhaps finish what he started with 2 fellow Hart winners might stoke his fire.

Why not go to Avs and play with talent and get at least seven million?

You make good points, but the premise of this roster is about vet players using the opportunity to boost their stats for bigger paydays for the next season and RFA's having no leverage due to Cap restraints.

Koivu can also choose to retire, so his presence as a mentor to Laine & JP is very important, and his leadership and experience would be worth it to the young leadership group.

The others may be cool with lower contracts to boost their next contract (Barrie/Hall) and also enable the team to afford to compete by accepting lower dollars. No one likes to be underpaid, but DeBrusk is a local kid and Sergachev may have a better perspective having be moved due to salary cap issues.

1. More talent?

2. Who does Hall know in Denver?

3. How many scoring titles, 50 goal seasons or Hart Trophies does any current Av have in the last 5 years?

that trade just hurts the Bruins so much. They get a much worse goalie on a bad contract, a center they do not need with one year left, and two bottom-six guys. They then retain salary on a guy with three. years. left. with a 1.6 aav. that is so cheap for someone of bjorks potential. Not to mention losing a potential 30 goal scorer who has little to no leverage in his contract negotiation.

it's a flat cap for 2 seasons, I can't see either getting a significantly bigger pay day in 2021-22 than they would this off-season.

plus, the risk of injury is always a real possibility.

Shattenkirk did the same thing taking a massive pay cut to be with Tampa, put up great stats and won a cup, but i'd be genuinely surprised if he gets more than $4M given he under performed with the Rangers prior to this... so, I see your logic, but sometimes it doesn't work out that way.
