People are fans of their own teams and have their own ideas of how things should go, if they dont like a deal they take it a bit to seriously. Myself included.

It can get pretty bad, I try not to but admit certain trades set me right off, but people do also need to get less defensive as well

Because this is the internet where everybody is a jerk. There's a lot of people on this site with terrible opinions who know jack about how trading works.

We only watch our favourite teams so we overvalue their players and undervalue players on other teams (just going based off stats or watching them the two or three times they play against us)

lol your best just to troll them, sometimes to keep people honest. Its literally impossible to make a trade that most people will say is good unless you know them here.

Dont even talk about fairness of trades. talk about the cap and have a discussion. It should be about thinking outside the box not about being right or wrong.

This place got boring quick once I say how people behaved. I mostly, just do this for fun for myself. When I started doing these lineups, I didn't expect any comments whatsoever, I didn't think the forum was this active.

you should not be making these lineups for good feedback. its rare as hell

I’ll admit being guilty of being bitter towards certain fan bases because no matter how many times try to politely explain why a trade doesn’t work it gets reposted 17 more times. After being nice a dozen times it can become a bit much and wish when making a team look at others and comments first so not recycling ideas that don’t work. I would provide examples but rather not single out the one fan base I feel is VERY guilty of doing this.

I think one way to dodge this (not that its your fault) is to read more of other peoples posts before posting. Whenever I dig into some "Taylor Hall signs for one year and 4.22m with the Leafs for the CUP!!1!1" with a bit of snark, it's usually because there are a countless number of posts explaining why things are unreasonable, and yet LeafsW1nner69420 goes out and trades Justin Holl and a 4rd for Rikard Rakell on half retention

The only reason I'm bitter about what everyone thinks is because if you look at my Avs GM (I know it's not the best), but I tried for no joke 9 hours on it and it got ripped the hell out of it, and I feel like I wasted 9 hours of my time when I could have done something productive. I know that one is cringey as all hell, but I worked my ass off on it, and no one appreciated it frown

The internet is a microcosm of real life except there is no accountability so people feel free to say what's on their mind no matter how ridiculous. The key is to just ignore people. Easier said than done, I know, but most of us would be a lot better off if we learned to ignore the people who run their mouths. The internet is a great place to practice that.

dude I 100% agree. Most of my other GMs were just me screwing around. This in my opinion is a fun place to just tinker with teams and have some fun with it.

Welcome to CapFriendly BTW. 👍🏻

A lot of the answers on here To your question are pretty accurate.

Remember fans stand for fanatics, expecting level headed rationalism is probably setting the bar to high. Fans of the same team don’t even get along.

Now the stinger. I looked at your post. It’s pretty lopsided in favor of Avs and an unrealistic amount of moves and draft picks being done all at once.

It’s unfortunate that many are so quick to jump down soneone’s throat without thought of the person behind the post.

As said above there is an awful lot of trolling on here, and constructive criticism often falls on deaf ears so it’s become more of the norm.

When it comes to trades, ask yourself, would you trade for the players you’re offering? If you’re trying to get rid of them, don’t offer them in trades. The other teams don’t want them either. They have their own depth to draw from. Look for what a team needs, if you have extra, start there. And no, Ottawa doesn’t want your bad contracts that are longer than 1 year.

Because people can be nasty, its not a new thing online. You have polite people and you have people who take this all like life and death. I'm shocked when people seem surprised by it at this point.

It's mostly due to ignorance - we don't know that other players are worth. It's important to remember that real front office folks are paid a lot to know this stuff (that's the idea, at least). That's why they're in the building while we're running simulations LOL.

Because lack of accountability (i.e., anonymity) over-rides good manners. This isn't limited to CapFriendly by any means. I have a friend who is a partner at a national law firm, and she commented to me ten years ago that people within the firm are snarky and even nasty in internal correspondence, saying things in e-mails that they would never say face-to-face (e.g., What an awful idea! Who thinks like that?). And this is when their names are attached to their posts!!

Exactly, We know in our minds what our players are worth. Yet in the end it winds up being far different then reality.

Right. I know that my 4th line player is worth your first-liner and 7th while you're sure your career backup goalie is worth a 2nd.

Another huge issue with that is people like myself, dont always understand the valuing of a player and sometimes it can be really hard. Most of the time you're moving guys you watch everyday for players you want to watch everyday and tbh if you dont really digest what that player your trading for actually can bring to the table besides using basic statistics you'll likely never find even ground on here. Regardless of the banter I do learn a lot from other people on here and its why I like this website so much.

Edit: Just realized this was addressed above me, sorry for wasting your time
