Monahan for a defenseman isn't going to happen. No disrespect to Dumba because he's fantastic, but the hole it creates moving Monahan is not worth it, especially when RD like Brodie, Barrie and Vatanen are available to the UFA market. The only way Monahan is moved in in a package for an upgrade on him

I'm not sure what the point is in trading Dumba and trading for another D. They want to trade Dumba so they don't lose him for nothing at the expansion draft. They would lose risto now instead.

You've said this a couple times in a couple threads. I'm curious what logic you are applying here and why you believe this. Especially when all evidence (current reporting as well as historical & empirical) is to the contrary.

The only foundations for Flames/Wild deal that could make sense IMO is Bennett+1st & Dumba if the Wild are indeed rebuilding.

I'm using the most basic of logic, it's really sad that people see names in quotes from reporters and don't actually take a second to comprehend what was actually said.

Current reporting isn't suggesting this is a possibility at all, in fact everything suggests the contrary. I broke Russo's quote down the last time I saw a Monahan/Dumba trade. He essentially states the Flames showed interest in Dumba but the Wild weren't interested and probably wouldn't even do it if Monahan was on the table, which insinuated that they simply don't want to make a deal with Calgary (my guess is due to bad blood from the 2019 deadline and the Backlund/Dumba injuries). Both Friedman and LeBrun have said that the Flames are listening to offers on Monahan and Gaudreau, but not shopping them.

Also, the FLames are trying to contend, everyone always talks about center ice being the most important position for winning, so what logical sense does it makes to trade your #1C for a defenseman when your other options for #1C are Lindholm who has never been an everyday center and even says says he is better and enjoys it more on the wing or Backlund who in an ideal world would be used as an elite 3C, because he is elite defensively but only a 40-50 point center.

So please, give some form of even semi-intelligent logic that says trading Monahan for a defenseman makes a lick of sense for Calgary. Don't worry, I won't wait because you can't.

This is not correct or accurate. Considering the reports that is exactly what the Flames offered but the Wild is holding off as they aren't enamored with Monahan and want to see if they can do better. Regardless of your man crush on Monahan and Gaudreau, doesn't make the unmovable. We can agree Dumba is fantastic but that's about it. Brodie, Barrie & Vatanen are completely different defensemen that bring completely different elements in their games. The Flames already are constructed with soft, slightly above average skilled, average to below average sized, 1 dimensional players. So saying they are available is moot as that's not what they need. If mediocrity is your goal, sure, bring one of them in and get ready to draft 15-20th again next year. As far as trading Monahan creating a hole; he is a great human and decent player but he's ideally suited as a 2C with strong, playmaking line mates who don't depend on him to drive play. The assertion the only way they move him is if it is the same deal they are upgrading him is ludicrous in mind numbing shortsighted. Think what you want but as it has never happened consider the logic. 1: No one is lining up to trade a clear cut upgrade on him. Name one player that is rumored to be available. No one has that kind of depth (outside of CGY who has an upgrade internally in Lindholm) that they are willing to part with, even if they did, why the hell would they want to part with the upgrade only to replace him with the lesser version they presumably already have in their system. It's a circular and nonsensical argument. 2: WTF are they going to offer that would entice another team to trade away a legit, top tier #1C. Name 5 in the last ten years that have been traded. The only legitimate way to acquire one is Free Agency (Very Rare) or Draft One (you don't find many outside the top 10 and if you do, the odds are legitimately 1/9500 (once or twice every ten years.)

So after the amount of threads I've seen you sh*t all over other people's ideas because your feelings get hurt about the thought of trading your favorite players because of whatever excuses you make for them re: their lack of performance, make try a little self awareness and use some logic (heaven forbid do some damn research) instead of making stupid comments in a undeserved condescending tone. Monahan isn't untouchable. Neither is Gaudreau. Stop embarrassing the rest of this fanbase by acting like a Leafs fan.

Proof? Because the only quote I saw was from Russo saying the Wild wouldn't EVEN IF Calgary offered Monahan.

Not reading the context and consistently missing the point seems to be a pattern with you eh? Friedman (and/or Johnston) said in on 960 last week. Regardless, it doesn't matter b/c the point remains the same as what you mentioned Russo has pointed out. The Wild aren't overly interested in Monahan. Doesn't make you any less wrong about Monahan being untouchable. Doesn't make you any less wrong about the unrealistic and illogical return you expect for Monahan (and/or Gaudreau for that matter.) Just because you don't agree with someone, or isn't what you personally want, doesn't make them wrong. GM's make crazy trades that don't make sense to approx. 50% of their fanbases all the time. I can also guarantee you get sh*t wrong all the time. Everyone does. Myself 100% included. The truth is, no one on here has a clue what any GM is thinking or going to do. It's for fun and to bounce ideas off of one another. Maybe try thinking about that before you feel entitled to belittle someone to make yourself feel smarter than you are. Or don't and continue to come across as an arrogant toe rag and alienate everyone around you.

@Different_Perspective_85 let's make a bet. If Monahan is traded for a defenseman, I will never post again, if he's not, you never post again.
