MTL would definitely take that deal. Big RW with speed is pretty much the definition of what they want.

I don't see Cernak being traded without like Johnson being attached in the deal. He's a damn good top 4 D

Seems like there are two types of Habs fans on here.. the ones who will gladly give up a 2nd for Virtanen and the ones who think he isn't worth a 4th hahah
Glad to see you're one of the sane ones!

I'll be the first person to admin the Cernak deal is lopsided in Van's favor. imo he's worth a lot more, but TB doesn't have leverage with the amount of money they have to commit to Cirelli and Sergachev. If TB says no to this deal then what's stopping Van from waiting till the Bolts commit top money to that pair, then sneaking in a 4.3m OS for him and giving up only a second? Right now, Cernak and Foote are the only RHD under their control Stecher at least gives them a replacement.

Thoughts?

Well first Cernak is not worth 4.3M unless you are signing him long term. If it's a a bridge deal you are looking at a 5.5-6M QO at the end of it which is WAY more than what he is worth.
Secondly, the thing that is stopping them from doing that is Cernak. Why would he want to leave Tampa? The team just dominated the playoffs and can very likely do it again next year if things go right this summer. A 4.3M deal in Vancouver is like a 3M deal in Tampa, plus you have the nicer weather in Florida. Cernak can easily take a team friendly deal for a year or two, wait for cap space to open up with Expansion and then get paid.

Again this is a very easy decline from Tampa and they aren't afraid of offer sheets since they are empty threats

This is 100% not what happens. This team is worse than last year and Jim would get fired.

If you think the Canucks are going to be able to ice a better team next year you're delusional. Marky and Tanev are gone already so the only issue here is Toffoli, and if Benning stays true to what he has been saying and refuses to add sweetners to move bad money out then all of Loui, Beagle, Roussel, and Benn are staying, making Toffoli too expensive to sign. Unless another GM in the league gets a concussion and deems any of those players worthy of a 'hockey trade' I can honestly see the Canucks missing the playoffs next year.
