That’s the max I would give up if I were VAN, and it would have to include the retention.
I think what a lot of people are not taking into consideration here is leverage.
OEL has a no movement clause so unless he has a large amount of teams he is willing to go to Arizona has very little leverage for this transaction.
This situation reminds me of when VAN traded Kessler, the difference being that’s Arizona is desperate to shed salary, that gives the acquiring team even more leverage than Anaheim had for the Kessler trade.
I think VAN could possibly even add Eriksson in this trade and still get it done. If Arizona wants to be at or near the cap floor, Eriksson is owed very little real money over the next two seasons but counts as 6 million towards the cap.
All depends on HOW desperate Arizona is to shed salary and how many teams OEL is willing to accept a trade to.
That said, OEL has a huge cap hit for a long time and unless the Canucks get Arizona to retain (which i think is unlikely) I personally hope they stay away from him, even though he’s still a good player.
