Not enough incentive to take on two years of Alzner. Staal isn’t a comparable as he’s one year and fills our bottom pairing to help mentor prospects while Alzner is an AHL D signed for two more years. If you added Chicago’s second round I’d consider it fair value.

Lets' break this down, so I can hopefully have less of a headache.

Why would Hall sign 2 years in Montreal.... they are definitely not a contender

Why trade a better player in Tatar for Killorn, then hold salary too?

That doesn't get Laine.

then the following season you lose pieces because Laine takes too much money.

please explain what was the point of this

tatar better than killorn....... vehemently disagree. hope BriseBois thinks like you!

I am willing to put money down that Hall signs for this type of deal, maybe even less money. With a few good tweaks MTL is 100% in the mix

Laine is where I agree maybe a bit more - but Domi is also RFA, I think it's worth it to make this a real contender

Tatar, who puts up 25 goals, and roughly 60-ish points with a rebuilding team vs. Killorn who puts up 26 goals and 50 points on a totally stacked roster, so you're retaining salary for less points.

my point for the Jets trade was what you offered is nowhere near enough to get Laine to come to Montreal.

then you gut the team in the next off-season.

Tampa is dropping cap space so no player going back only prospects or picks...that is the point so they can afford RFA on the team

Forget Laine they want too much and the new team has to pay the huge contract...

We can contend with Hoffman or Dadonov and maybe make an offer to Ryan... you only need one of them..... then if the kids progress i think we can challenge for winning a round or two in playoffs as we hav a solid defense and great goaltending and a top six of Drouin Suzuki gallaghner tatar KK and the UFA hoffman or Dadonov..... plus our next three danault and Domi and Armia that is a solid top nine...fourth line is good too... there is depth now

Idk what's funnier here, thinking that trade for Laine is legitimate or thinking MTL is "a few good tweaks" from being even remotely a contender.

Staal is going to mentor them into how to be one of the worst defensemen in the league

You do understand that Staal has a good defensive hockey IQ and that because he’s partially blind and can’t skate isn’t a direct correlation with mentoring?

and of course a classic Hab -hater like windjammer knows his stuff... lol... harder to be a fan than to be a hater...

you silly man we have a hall of fame goalie and and hall of fame defenseman and all we ever needed was some centers to go with them... you can say all the stupid **** you want but montreal will make the playofffs again like this year... and they will win a round or two.. i truly believe this.. i have watched my team win more cups already than any other fan can ever hope so playoff success now is measured in playing good hockey and winning rounds because it is very hard to win cups now with 32 teams and Vegas receiving what they got in expansion... 10 stanley cup parades i have been to how many have you been too..lol

this is no point.... laine is overvalued and soon to be overpaid..... he will be an albatros to his new team with that new contract and that is why winnipeg will trade him... but not to montreal.... we learned with pacioretty who was a streaky goalscorer and very sensitive and not a good Captain and when he was in a scoring slump the team really suffered... at least when you have two way players they still contribute... like toews or Point or Ovechkin... get hoffman or Dadonov for less term and only money and then you can trade domi and Mete for picks and be stronger in the future.. teams like toronto and winnipeg have little defense and will be losers in the playoffs until they fix it.

Patrik Laine? The 22 year-old perennial 30-40 goal scorer? That guy?

Definitely not anything close to a 3C, middle of the road Dman and a mid-1st round pick, I can tell you that.

No chance. Alzner makes little real money at only 1.5 million this year. Can easily dump to a team to make the floor.
I wouldn’t give up more than a 3rd rounder otherwise stick him in the minors this year. He’s much easier to dump than Staal. Sens will take him if the Habs need to move money now which they don’t.

2 2nds to dump a contract cheap teams will jump at is laughable.

It’s very convenient you left out the 3.5M he’s owed next year. Alzner is an AHL defensemen signed for 2 years for a total of 5M. You have owners like Melnyk willing to buyout Ryan to save 3M roughly but he’s going to take on 5M for a third? awesome face

I’ve already explained why Yzerman took on Staal and you can hear it directly from him at roughly the 20 min mark at his recent interview or read my initial comment.

How about you attack the argument and not the person, which I’ve already debunked it you care to read the comments. I’m more than willing to have a discussion in good faith.

Red Wings aren’t the only team to take on salary. You keep pushing this narrative without realizing the economics of the game.

Another post where you don’t see the forest for the trees.

Alzner, Eriksson, etc have value now as cap dumps to fill the floor without real money. Staal did not have that asset. Not to mention getting picks. Staal did absolutely nothing for the Wings besides the pick.

But yes only the Wings have cap space. 31 teams don’t exist and neither does the new reality of teams bleeding money. 2020 is no different than 2019?!
