I keep hearing that from the capfriendly loyal. It does not align with reality. Every year there are teams that need to move salary around and every year teams seem to get fair value. Flat cap this year, lower cap increase than expected last year. Doesn’t seem to matter.

Leafs needed to move Kapanen for space and got a mid first and a prospect. Sure you would have climbed up on your soapbox had I posted that here.

The simple fact is that player value doesn’t sway as much as people believe in here. A player coming off a down season like dumba doesn’t lose all value. There are 30 teams available to trade with.... who employ scouts rather than hockey reference. Of those 30 teams several will compete with an offer they deem fair.

Teams planned last yrs signings on the cap going up it didn’t everyone is working backwards now Leaf fans will be shocked how little the return is they go down that route as straight money out he has value in a hockey trade close to or equal money going back as coming in but as a cap dump very little value.

I think you can get at a 4th for Engvall and you can definitely get at least a 3rd for Holl. RHD are limited these days and someone may even give you a 2nd for him.

I think the Arizona one is also an overpayment. I understand acquiring Soderstrom but like do we really need him when we already have Liljgren, Lehtonen, Dermott, and Sandin who are all likely ready to play on that bottom pair. I would rather target someone who is ready for the top pairing role beside Reilly, especially if were trading Nylander to acquire it.

To call Johnsson a "cap dump" is incorrect. He is an NHL-quality player who has shown to put up good offensive numbers. His skillset would help many teams (please don't deny that). You may deem him overpaid, but that doesn't make him a cap dump. Marc Staal was a cap dump. Patrick Marleau last year was a cap dump. I'm not saying this trade is perfect, but OP is hardly the first person to link Johnsson to Edmonton and many writers seem to think there's a good fit.

I said in my last post he has value I would like him in Edmonton colours but not unless the leafs take money back a hockey trade like I said if the leafs decide they need petro and will need clear cap no teams will be lining up to help the leafs out is value is dropping by the day as teams wait to see what RFAs don’t get qualified and become UFA allowing then to grab players of Johnsson caliber for half the price and teams that were interested found cheaper options and didn’t need to move a pick see how the window is closing on a Johnsson and Kerfoot if the leafs would consider Chiasson at one yr 2.1 for Johnsson Edmonton has cap for is second and third deal and straight up old fashioned hockey trade player of player

Here’s the issue, if leafs don’t need to move Johnsson... they don’t. The benefit to Edmonton is that they get a player that would otherwise not be on the market. Johnsson for a 3rd is a steal.

Take out Soderstrom and the Coyotes consider. And before you tell me that’s unrealistic go take a look at the cost per point section of this website and look who’s at the top. That is invaluable for a team like the Coyotes so trading Garland will not happen unless there’s a massive overpay
