Nice construction. My personal belief is that Mikheyev gets $500k more, but that's just a stab.

Take a look at Blake Lizotte.

imo drop gudas, keep Dermott, and use the extra money to upgrade at 3C. I think you'd be very disappointed in the bottom 6. Also no chance you retain Andersen on a cap crunched team. Spend that money back into the bottom 6 as well

Thanks. I tried to be reasonable but my main goal was to get picks so we can hopefully be able to add a few more ELC's down the road when we need more cap relief and upgradethe D plus figure out our goaltendingsituation. Alot of the players/contracts can be anybody that would sign for those amounts or close to it the two players I like are Maroon and Gudas for what they bring but if we can't get them it could be anybody really and my top target and who should be Dubas' top target was/is DeMelo.

He looks pretty good, what do you think L.A would want for him? And do you think the trades and other contracts are fair value?

Agreed. That was an option I just like his grit. That being said most contracts can be any player really I was just trying to sign short-term contracts and get some picks (could also be in other years). Do you think my contract and trade valuations are fair?

That was an option I thought of as well. I was trying to keep the contracts short but it could be any players really and there is a few different avenues that could be taken I was just trying to get some cheap/short term contracts and some picks to turn into ELC's in a few years. To you think I was fair with the trades n contracts?

This is a lot to unpack.

I do think Ottawa could be taken advantage of a trade like this with Anderson being owed so little actual money vs his higher cap hit. They will be looking for a goalie because they have said publically that they will be moving on from Andersen but i am not sure they would pay that much for Anderson.

I don't think we will need to sign three different UFA RHDs one would do it for me. I like Holl paired with Muzzin. I am all on board for Signing DeMelo to a 3 million cap hit. Maybe a little less term. No need to trade Kerfoot When we dont know where a replacement 3C will come from, Especially at 1.5M.

I think you are selling low on a bunch of our depth.

So couple things to point out. Retaining 1m would not be 1m cash. It would be 200k, making Andersen an 800k goalie.

Secondly khudobin is old... wouldn’t expect this much out of him next year. Certainly not 4m worth.

Last if all I don’t think Hamonic wants to sign here. I would take Demelo and go from there.

I'm not a fan of Khudobin who's a bit older and seems to be a bit of a product of a strong defensive system. I wouldn't want to pay that much for a guy who's coming off such a hot playoff run.

Holl is perfectly fine on the 1st or 2nd pair with Muzzin so I'd also rather use the cap space elsewhere. Not signing Hamonic and keeping holl would give them the cap space to keep kerfoot as a 3c and potentially pick up Kuemper instead of Khudobin.

I wasn't trying to rip off Ottawa, they have said they aren't bringing back Anderson so I gave them a free goalie for a year for 2 late seconds. I thought it would be reasonable for both sides but I get your point and can see them not going for it as well. If not Andersen can be moved for a 2nd n 3rd if that is more fair. That was my initial thought but I know Melnyk likes to save $ so I thought maybe lol.

That's fine too. The main point of this ACGM was to acquire picks to turn into future ELC's when we need them and sign short term contracts. The players could be anybody really I just wanted to upgrade the D, figure out our goaltending situation beyond this year and get some picks. I realize we might be able to get a little more in some trades but it was more about reallocating money while gaining some lottery tickets. Feel free to replace any of the players I brought in with anyone you like that can be signed for a similar amount. Also, gave DeMelo more term on purpose because I figured alot of teams would be in on him at that price and the term is what could separate us from the rest. He was my top choice for upgrading the D.

Yes. I would think Hamonic gets maybe a bit less, but not much. I also think youd have a hard time finding a 3C for 1.5mil

I was wondering about that but he would still be a dirt-cheap option for Ottawa that they wouldn't be able to get that type of production for that price anywhere else IMO.

I realize he's old but it's only for 2 years and he wouldn't be expected to replace Freddie's workload. There are other options this allowed us to keep our goaltending tandem at the same cap hit next year while gaining a couple of picks and have his money come off the books when Rielly, Campbell, Sandin, Liljegren and potentially Mikheyev and Dermott need new contracts (yes, I know I traded Dermott but he could be kept because we realistically won't sign 3 UFA defenseman). This was just an exercise to see roughly what we could look like next year. Feel free to replace and signings you want with players you want that would be of similar cost or allow us to stay under the cap and give us flexibility going forward.

I agree he probably doesn't sign here this was more of seeing what we could do but DeMelo was the one player I felt we needed to get which is why I gave him term to try and separate us from the rest of the teams bidding on him.

Overall, what do you think about the value of the trades and contracts?

Honestly?

I strongly dislike it. Specifically the "place holder 3c"

The 3c is the 4th-5th most important forward.

1c than 2c, than 1-2 wingers.

We need to stop trying to nickle and dime the heck out of that spot. You've also gambled on khudobin who has been great this year and playoffs but is 34 and has had off years.

I doubt Gudas signs that and I doubt harmonic is willing to leave western Canada.

Keep Holl and Dermott for cheaper and just sign demelo. Then invest in a proper 3 c.

I hear ya, I thought about that too but figured Khudobin only cost us money while gaining assets for Andersen instead of giving up a ton for Kuemper and potentially not being able to resign him as we have Rielly at the same time. My goal was to keep contracts short and in some cases overpay a little to keep the term down so we can have future financial flexibility while getting some more chances to add some ELC's down the road.

There were a few different options in terms of how to reallocate the money and Holl could be kept as well as Kerfoot. Realistically, we probably aren't signing 3 UFA dmen in the same offseason I just want to see how "beefed up" our dcore could be without signing Pietrangelo and I like this better. That being said feel free to replace any players with anyone else you would like that would cost around the same or keeping us under the cap.

Overall what do you think about the contracts signed and the trades? I undersold a few trades so fans of other teams wouldn't complain.

I think you are in the lower end of what I would expect back from kerfoot and Johnsson. About right on Dermott. And low on Holl. But Zi get it... if you ask for his actual value you get 3 pages of hate.

My idea would be to keep him and upgrade it’s one rhd. See where Sandin liljegren lehtonen and Dermott Fit in next season.

I disagree with the 3rd line centre needing to be good when we have Matthews, Tavares and Spezza to take draws. We need to cut costs somewhere but we could keep Kerfoot if you'd like and not sign Haminic or Gudas and keep Holl and or Dermott. These were options I thought about I just wanted to see how much we could bulk up our D-core without signing Petro. I realize it's unlikely we sign 3 UFA d in the same offseason. The point is we won't be able to be strong everywhere with a flat cap we will have to make sacrifices.

I chose to sign Khudobin (or any FA goalie) instead of trading for Keumper because we wont be able to sign him and Rielly in the same offseason IMO.

It's not draws. Centres almost always drive possession.

Also soezza is in his late 30s I wouldn't depending him for much.

What happens when there is an injury?

Good teams build from centre out.

My thought process with the Andersen trade was that Ottawa was getting a free goalie which Jamie pointed out he's not free but for 800k and with the picks Ott has I figured it might be attractive to them. If they don't want to make the trade he can be traded for a 2nd and 3rd.

Yup, there was different ways to go about this ACGM I just wanted to see what we could do with our D without signing Pietrangelo. I thought of keeping Holl and Dermott and only signing DeMelo which is probably better because our bottom six is weaker. It wasn't wishful thinking I realized that our bottom six was taking a hit in terms of production but I think we will be downgrading somewhere.

Thank you! I went a bit low so I wouldn't have to hear it from fans of other teams.

I agree although I'm ok with 2 d but I think DeMelo should be at the top of Dubas' list and not Pietrangelo. Thanks for the feedback!

It's not draws. Centres almost always drive possession.

Also soezza is in his late 30s I wouldn't depending him for much.

What happens when there is an injury?

Good teams build from centre out.

I get your point and I'm not saying you're wrong just my opinion. Realistically, we are not bringing in 3 new D. This was more to show what we can do instead of going after Pietrangelo. That being said, feel free to replace any players with ones you want or change any trades made. My goal for this ACGM was to upgrade the D and figure out our goaltending situation beyond this year and getting some more draft picks that will hopefully turn into ELC's in the near future . I also, didn't want to trade for Kuemper because I can't see us being able to keep him and Rielly plus the other raises we will need to give out over the next 2 years.

So say we keep Keefoot, Holl and Dermott and don't sign Hamonic, Gudas and placeholder do you like this team going into next year? And do you think I was fair with the contracts and trades?
