Wanted to try a new experiment based on some emerging rumors that CBJ are intending to buy-out Wennberg. I previously thought the team would be hesitant to do so, but with teams across the league looking to cut-costs, its feeling more and more likely at this point. So, without further ado:
- I've always been a big fan of Ehlers, and CBJ pick him up from WPG. I know talk is that CBJ are pinpointing Laine, but I like that Ehlers is cost-controlled and has a better two-way presence, even if Laine is the bigger overall offensive threat. WPG gets Savard, a legit Top 4D, and for purposes of this trade, probably get him with an extension in place. Considering his age and the market, I actually think he can be extended for a pretty good value. Murray is more or less thrown in here, with some hope that he can show that similar Top 4D ability, assuming he can stay on the ice. CBJ throw in a 1st as well in exchange for a 3rd. CBJ retain 1/2 of each, essentially giving WPG two-for-the-price-of-one for a season.
- CBJ work with EDM to get RNH, providing them with another Top-6 C, alongside Dubois. EDM gets rights to Anderson, as well as Korpi (a legit starting goalie) and Nuti (a quality Bottom-4D who has a high-upside offensive game). I added Thome as well, a G prospect with some promise. RNH gets an extension as part of the trade.
- Dubinsky still gets shipped to AZ for a throw-in pick. AZ gets to double-down on LTIR, and don't have to pay a dime for Dubi's contract, which I believe is fully insured.
- OTT takes a flyer on Shore. The rebuild is still going strong, and with an additional roster space available following Bobby Ryan's buyout, it's a low-risk/ high-reward move for them. CBJ recoup, well, something.
- FLA gets some grit and depth in Nash. I've always liked him, and he's shown he's capable of some offensive upside, but he's a B6 forward in Cbus, and we have those players in spades.
What the Oilers do not need, DEFENSE.
I think you would have to give up Bjorkstrand and Merzlikins or something along those lines, probably have to add something else too like Bemström.... Oilers fans would kill Holland if he traded Nuge, so there would have to be an overpay
I don't think you're offering anything near enough for RNH, nor are the Oilers particularly interested in trading RNH (at least, they shouldn't be).
Nuutivara is a poor-man's top-4 defenceman and Korpisalo is not a legitimate starting goaltender. His numbers beyond that brief stint in this years' post-season are bad for a guy you'd expect a minimum of 41 games out of. Anderson is interesting, but Edmonton's on the cusp of having 6 RW's under contract for next season with limited options for making room for what they already have. Thome could be interesting in a few years, especially if he keeps his UND numbers up, but he doesn't represent enough value right now to be considered a substantial add.
And I strongly doubt Edmonton has the cap space available to pull this off.

Got it...trying to get a better gauge of RNH’s value, so this is helpful. I had thought EDM was looking more into a trade instead of retaining him.
