I think “the rumor” is beat writers just coming up with ideas to fill their columns. The Leafs guy and Devils guy on the Athletic have exchanged possible trades. (Leafs guy said Dermott plus two picks, Devils guy said Dermott, Sandin and Liljegren). I have seen another blogger suggest it. But I haven’t seen anything that would suggest it’s more than speculation.

As I said I don't really get it. But wanted to try it out anyway.

It sounds like Montour is going to walk. I don't think Buffalo is going to qualify him. They have no need to anyway when their RHD is already stacked.

I like Zacha, if nothing else he is over 1 million cheaper than Kerfoot and a little younger (I believe RFA at the end of his contract). So there is value there. But also why do you say downgrade? I see NJD willing to trade him as they have numerous bottom 6 c's and have cap room, we don't.

Zacha is just horrendous defensively. Like bottom of the league. For some reason he has a rep as being good around here and it's mystifying

Huh. I was always under the impression he was a good two way/defensive center. His numbers for his zone starts are fine if not good and I've never watched him much

He is inconsistent/streaky offensively, great at PK, solid defensively, bad at faceoffs, played all three forward positions, played all four lines, never used on pp, spent better part of year and half in Hynes' doghouse, even sent to AHL for stint last year, got better with Naserdine, has different off/def rates at wing and center, hole in his game is still his positioning (both on off/def), has underused shot, and has been whipping boy for NJ media for last few years, got into tiff with Hall at one point, but is well-liked by teammates, misses pickles.

Read up on him, watch the tape...NJD not looking to trade him...Leafs fans went to NJD to acquire him.
