Out of the last ten 1st overall picks, 3 have had 90+ point seasons. no matter how good a prospect seems before they get drafted there’s never a certainty that they’ll be good in the nhl. I wouldn’t even trade Marner one for one for 1st overall, let alone Muzzin and 15th as well. Dubas would be fired and Toronto would be set on fire if that trade was done.

Lafrenierre is projected to be a 90-100 PT winger and odds are will do so at three years of not paying ten million a year(which like four wingers are actually worth). Edit: yes those players have had 90+ point seasons... but only 4 have had 90+ point seasons while still on their entry level deal. Ovechkin, Crosby, Stamkos, McDavid.

Marner's cap hit is one of the worst in the league and you know it.

And paying of over ten for a winger is basically a recipe for cap hell, its literally the least important position. Outside the big four wingers (ovie, Kane, panarin, kucherov) I can't think of a winger that drives a team. Madness a great player but I can think of a winger outside those four I'd pay as a top player instead of Dublin that money into d/c.

yes, maybe i am slightly biased. but i’m one of the least biased leafs fans you’ll ever meet. he’s expensive, no doubt. but he’s also, arguably, the best player on the leafs. you can’t argue that. trading marner for laf would be silly. draft picks are always uncertain, no matter how good they look before the fact.

and what’s a fact? that he “wasn’t engaged”? because did you watch? he was one of the best players on the ice for the Leafs every game that series. points aren’t everything
