Pajamas to Montreal

Créé par: TMLBRIAN
Équipe: 2020-21 Maple Leafs de Toronto
Date de création initiale: 26 sept. 2020
Publié: 26 sept. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Montreal gets number one centre. Leafs get a number 2 defensive minded centre (extended), 1st round pick, top prospect and cap space.

I know this won't happen, as Tavares has NMC. But I wanted to see what the team would look like regardless.

This team is definitely a lot more balanced!

I mean tbh in terms of value this probably works, but obviously, what you said about the NMC, makes this impossible

Value is good for MTL but I don't think they have the cap to do it as things stand.

Not at all. Danault is one of the most underrated players in the league and will most likely provide excess value on his next deal. He’s a 1C. Caufield is an elite prospect and a 1st for a 30 year old Tavares. He’s still a great player but he’s on the decline.

Ya clearly this is good value for Montreal. 2nd line centre, 16th overall and a high end winger prospect for a legit number one centre. They would gladly take this.

Paying 11 mil for a guy to play 3rd line centre doesn’t make a lot of sense. No thanks

danault is far from a 1C on a cup team. hes a defensive minded 2C. Caufield is overhyped, not high on him at all, but he does carry value. Tavares would be the elite player that MTL needs to actually make a run with Price/Weber. If they could add a player like Tavares they would do it in a heartbeat. And they aren't touching Suzuki/JK in this deal either.

He would clearly be Montreals number one for several years. Suzuki and KK as number 2 and 3. Maybe in 3 years Tavares drops to number 2 as one of those guys takes over. That would be a scary 1-2-3 punch down the middle.

even at 33 Tavares would be MTL's best forward since Lafleur. Habs take this deal in a second.

If Tavares didn’t have any trade protection, dubas would accept this trade in a heartbeat. At the very least danault is a high end 2C and has borderline elite play driving metrics.

Lol. What do you want me to say. I’m a Habs fan I don’t enjoy the thought of any leafs player as a hab. He gets 3rd line minutes

I wouldn't even say hes a "high end" 2C. His metrics are good sure, but his actual on ice production is equivalent to a 50 point player who is great defensively.

I agree. I think Dubas would consider this because they already have Matthews. I also think that Bergervin would do this because they don't have a number 1. They have 3 number 2s. They keep their 2 young number 2s and get Tavares who will be their number one. Leafs get a defensive minded number 2 with an extension and get 2 prospects to make up the difference.

I’ll take a 50 pt play driving center who excels at both ends of the ice than a 1 dimensional player like kuznetsov who just puts up points. points aren’t the only way evaluate how effective a player is.

I would say he is a high end number 2 but not a number one. Low/mid end point wise for a number 2 but super high end defensively. Would be exactly what the Leafs need from that spot.

Bergevin just gave a #6 D 3.5 mill, so who knows if he would do this, but it’s still not a good trade for Montreal.

I mean the value is there, Tavares is a really good player but giving up one of the top 5 prospects not in hockey, a good cheap 2C and a top 20 pick makes it more of a money thing for MTL to say no.

Even a resigned Danault at 6.5, Caufield at 925000 and another ELC is just over half of Tavares and two of those pieces will get to develop with the two center MTL will have for the next decade, so it's a no from the Habs.

Ill take Kuzy all day every day over Danault and its not even close... Even though he sucks defensively, his offensive talent is just too high to pass up on. He struggled this year but he should be an 80+ point winger. I remember him in 2018 vs the Penguins and he was just dominant. Danault could never reach that level

and the cap space could allow them to sign a guy like Petro. like I said, in terms of value, its probably the best Tavares trade that will never happen and makes too much sense for both teams inside of a vacuum.
