like i said on the other post, i wouldn’t trade marner one for one for laf. draft picks are too big of a risk to trade a guy like marner for. Marner has proven himself as a 90+ point player. laf might not even be a regular nhler, it’s a stretch, but we can’t be sure.
Okay. Like I said in the other post, from 1990 until 2015, there are 11 players taken first overall who aren't as valuable as Marner. 14 out of 25 were, so there's a 56% chance that Lafreniere is as good as Marner. Either way, the cap is flat, and the chance to sign Pietrangelo and one of the top wings off the UFA market while developing Lafreniere on the 2nd line is pretty darn valuable.
Might not be worth everything I offered the Rangers for it, but likely Rangers fans rejected Muzzin as "too old," so the Leafs could counter with Marner, Kerfoot, Engvall, Holl (edit: plus the late 1st. I think they have to want that). The odds that Pietrangelo is about as good as Marner this year? About 100%. The odds that Hall is close to as good? Also about 100%. So the fact that it's only a bit better than 50/50 whether Lafreniere gets there in four years? I mean, are you stupid?
