Already posted the Rangers side and everybody agreed neither side does this. But I wondered what it could look like on Toronto's side.

Actually as long as TO can make those free agent signings, they would absolutely trade Mitch for Laf

^This guy gets it.

eta: if prices get bid up too high on Pietrangelo, and they have to settle for Hall, Dadonov, or Toffoli at 1L, I still think they come out okay. What do you think?

Caps fan here, just messing around. No offense intended. And for hockey reasons, I agree they wouldn't. But for cost saving reasons, hopefully to save up and contend in the future, that trade saves the Senators about $4M this year. Gustavsson is Belleville's youngest goalie, but he's also third in GAA and SPCT there. Have to think Hogberg and Daccord are currently closer to a call-up, and they can draft two goalies better than Gustavsson this offseason.

Right? That's what I'm saying. Three years of ELC superstar LW plus cap space to sign another LW? Seems like a good plan.

All the Rangers fans said no, so unfortunately Toronto probably has to sweeten this a tiny bit. Which is ridiculous, because Marner is a superstar. But if this roster is realistic, then it might be worth it?

Personally, the team I posted on the Rangers' side has three first lines, and will win games by scores of 9-8. The blue line is too young, but has good players who will improve with time.

What would be added to get you interested?

It depends on your view of Lafreniere of course, but playing beside Matthews and Hyman I see him easily being a 70+ point guy at least, in his rookie season.

Rangers decline for same reason - if they are high enough on Laf, then a difference of 5 years of age and 10 million dollars might not be worth it

Yeah. It's possible Toronto has to add the Carolina pick, to get NYR on board. I would do that even though I think 70 as a rookie might be a stretch. There's definitely a good team in place to support him, and with more cap space they could address a need at RD1 in free agency, and still have some cap to mess around with.

I'm a Caps fan just having fun. Marner, Carolina's late 1st, Muzzin, Bracco?

There is nothing other than McDavid or Matthews that gets 1st overall. Muzzin Is old and Bracco is a dud.

@KMMHL2012 @mhockey91

How does this affect your perception of the value of the trade? I think it's a win for Toronto. So I retried it from New York's side under the title, "Second Attempt." Not to stop you two from arguing, but you're starting to repeat yourselves, and I thought some new ideas might help you argue in a more interesting way. smile

Hall might be a reach. If Pietrangelo gets bid up to 9 I don't have a good way to sign him..... so I reposted this on the Rangers side, throwing in Muzzin. I know Muzzin's underrated and great in his own end, but he's getting old, and there will be a lot of teams cutting salary this year. Tor can replace him. I also threw in the Pittsburgh 1st because otherwise it just wasn't fair to New York. I think it came out about even, in the end.

Do teams get to talk to UFAs before draft day? Can Tor be sure both top UFAs will join them? Because to me, that'd be enough incentive to consider this.

like i said on the other post, i wouldn’t trade marner one for one for laf. draft picks are too big of a risk to trade a guy like marner for. Marner has proven himself as a 90+ point player. laf might not even be a regular nhler, it’s a stretch, but we can’t be sure.

Okay. Like I said in the other post, from 1990 until 2015, there are 11 players taken first overall who aren't as valuable as Marner. 14 out of 25 were, so there's a 56% chance that Lafreniere is as good as Marner. Either way, the cap is flat, and the chance to sign Pietrangelo and one of the top wings off the UFA market while developing Lafreniere on the 2nd line is pretty darn valuable.

Might not be worth everything I offered the Rangers for it, but likely Rangers fans rejected Muzzin as "too old," so the Leafs could counter with Marner, Kerfoot, Engvall, Holl (edit: plus the late 1st. I think they have to want that). The odds that Pietrangelo is about as good as Marner this year? About 100%. The odds that Hall is close to as good? Also about 100%. So the fact that it's only a bit better than 50/50 whether Lafreniere gets there in four years? I mean, are you stupid?
