Im not sure why all of these Pilut to Detroit’s come up. He’s playing in the KHL, isn’t ED exempt, and couldn’t crack a non-playoff team’s top 6. We have those guys already so that’s just adding to the logjam.

Smith would be good addition for Buffalo, Hutton as well, adding Staal sure makes this team look a lot better.

Don’t let how an incompetent team handled him. He’s a solid 4/5 guy, that helped make Risto look like a serviceable Dman. Why they didn’t play him more, I’ll never know.

I wouldn’t give away Lawrence Pilut like that. If you’re going to give him up he should be a sweetener in another trade for someone you really want, not for a throwaway draft pick. I kind of like the Crause trade, but we already have more left wingers than we need.

The analytics just don’t back this up as he dragged players he played with down. Detroit’s problem is we have too many bottom pairing guys and need top 4 guys to help carry the load.

If Detroit trades for Pilut he's probably one of the best unprotected players left on Detroit If Seattle picks him Detroit they just gave away a pick for nothing. A 6th isn't worth much but you don't want to just give away picks.

You do have to give up something right? I mean, if I’m any team and I can give up an asset I’ve put time into vs a 6th round pick the choice is pretty obvious to me. I mean, I’d prefer Buffalo just gave the guy a shot. He’s played just fine when he does play

O you mean the 13 game sample size? When he was being shuffled in and out and generally being an emergency call up from Rochester when he clearly played positive hockey in 18/19.

Does Buffalo want to give Detroit a 5th in exchange for nothing? Detroit is the wrong team for a move like this. They can't afford to take risks like that and If he won't play for Buffalo why would he play for Detroit?

I didn’t make the ACGM, and I personally want to actually give Pilut a shot. My point was, if you would be correct and Sea would take him after a year, seems like a win no? Give up an asset you’ve had in your system, put time into, or a 6th rounder. My guess is most teams (even Det) would rather just give the 6th rounder.

He can go to any team for a late round pick. Adams isn’t giving pilut a 1 way contract which is what he wants. So I just traded him to a team for a late round pick. Any team that needs depth on the left side can have him doesn’t really matter

Plenty of guys produce in the AHL but for various reasons (IQ, skating, etc) can’t hack it at the NHL level. There are plenty of fringe NHL defenders I’d take a flier on over Pilut. You’re kidding yourself if you don’t think most teams have a guy like him. You can try to rationalize it all you want but nothing he’s shown at rhe NHL has sold me on “solid 4/5 D-man” like you originally claimed.

He’s more then capable. And two things: 1) yeah, most teams have a bunch of 4,5,6 capable guys. I never said they didn’t. Two he had positive impact at the NHL level two years ago, while also being positive at the AHL level the last two years. Your kidding yourself if you think he’s substantially worse then those flier players also. 33 games in 18/19 with real positive possession metrics while getting actual playing time and more defensive zone starts then o zone. Id rather actually give him a shot then sell him off for a sixth (who in all likelihood won’t even be an AHL player)

That’s fine, I never claimed he was complete utter trash but provided three factual statements (playing in KHL, isn’t ED exempt, couldn’t crack BUF top 6) which countered he’s a solid 4/5D which he’s never shown. Could he be? Possibly. Every team has guys like him so it doesn’t make sense like I originally stated just adds to our logjam which is going to be really interesting with no potential AHL/ECHL. So I’m not exactly sure what your trying to move as your argument is all of the place. First he was a solid 4/5, then he could be one, and then lastly acknowledging every team has guys like him.

So what’s your argument? A sixth isn’t worth a guy who isn’t ED protected (which why would he need to be by how your talking about him), a lot of guys are currently playing in Europe that are finge players (he has an out clause), and Buffalo doesn’t manage its players well (not really questionable). If you want to call my argument flimsy, pot meet kettle bud.

Replace Hutton and that's a good team. Adams is rumored to be talking to other teams about goalie.

You said he dragged players down while using the smaller sample size (13 games) to prove your point while throwing out the larger sample size of 33 games where he elevated the play of his partner. But facts only right pot

Someone is super salty because I’m just stating facts. Im still waiting for evidence to backup your original post that he’s a solid 4/5D. What about my statement is incorrect the past season, every player he played with were drastically dragged down. 2 seasons ago he had decent Corsica for a bottom pairing guy but I could just claim sample size, right?

No I’m not salty, just a boring Saturday. And, I agree once you put the last year tag on it, he didn’t show that he was a 4/5. The year before he did, with a larger sample size. Truth is, those guys are usually dime o dozen (as you alluded, and one that I didn’t disagree with. And you stated the evidence, so I don’t need to back up anything. Larger sample size would prolly take precedence, but it’s really whatever. I’m more just sick of the mishandling of players from Buffalo. He has shown promise to be a bottom pairing guy that can play up if needed for an amount of time, much like many guys around the league. Have we found common ground here

We have, I don’t think it’s in Buffalo’s best interest to trade him nor a team to try and acquire him. The probability of that draft pick panning out is slim and hopefully Pilut can rebound. I approach that logic the same with higher profile guys like Poolparty.
